Default Work and family

Assuming that most of us here are old enough to have families, how do you manage to integrate workout and cardio with looking after the family?

I know I spend a lot of time cycling along with a four year old on the back seat of my bike, and my gym includes some pink and purple dumbells for the girls to use.

I workout early in the morning so that the only person who really notices that I'm not around is my husband (he leaves for work at 7). While he occasionally grumbles, this is the best solution I've been able to find. Luckily, my gym is about 5 minutes from my house, so if I leave at 6, I am generally back by 7:20 or so... just in time to make lunches and get the day started for everyone else. Fortunately, my oldest is 13, so she can cover my absence for the few minutes between when my husband leaves and I get back.

I can't workout once the day begins because there is always something that pops up to derail me. So, for now, this is what works.

I have been working out at home, and have the spare room pretty well set up, but the disadvantage is come leg day, all I've got to do is just THINK about squats, and suddenly I get a burning desire to sort laundry.

Home gyms are great for the house and keeping track of the kids. Just make sure one of the other parents is looking after the kids while your working out and that can help.

I bet family and working out is a hastle, especially with work.

I hate to admit it, but this is where the old "electronic babysitter" comes in handy. I park my littlest one in front of "Dora the Explorer" and I have 30 free minutes. Actually, she likes to come and and workout as well. She's four, and can deadlift 25kg with perfect form. But mostly she uses the pink dumbells.

I can only stand and marvel. There is no power on this earth that would get me out of bed and into a gym at that hour.

LOL i so feel that... my son loves Dora... im not to thrilled about that (his mom got him watchin that). My boy would be liftin if i let him he's always walkin around sayin "strong" and flexin his arms... his mom hates that, she hates bodybuilding and she always tells me shes gonna kick my ass if i get him into it
