I'm starting a 5x5 routine on the 27th (similar to the one BMF_Dallas is doing). It will have me doing 5x5's on core compound exercises 3x a week. I haven't figured out all the details yet, but I am a little nervous about how I'll handle hitting things with that frequency. For the last year or two I've been on a 2-on, 1 off, 2-on, 1-off routing where I hit each body part every 6 days. That has worked pretty well, but I'm in for a change. *R*

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 129 | I miss squatting 3x/week I ran Bill Starr's 5x5 program (my journal is in the workout logs section) and I made some great gains with it. The 3x/week squats aren't as bad as they sound.... in fact I think you'll come to love it. I know I did. |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 19 | Are you going to post details, RaSP? Until about 2 months ago, I was doing routines where I hit each part at least 3x week, sometimes 4x. I only recently went back to a bodypart split and I've made some good gains but I think that is largely simply because I switched things up, not due to some inherent advantage of a bodypart split over more of a full body approach. Anyway, I'm hoping you'll post some details... I'm really intrigued by the 3x/week squatting since I have a hard time putting on mass in my legs (see pathetic avatar for evidence). Now... why does NS need a walker? He's younger than I am so he has no excuses! |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 30 | LOL. Well I tried the 5x5 routine on for size today, and I really think I'm going to like it. I think the 3x a week will be OK. I'm going to be moving in a few days and that means I won't have a home gym for a while. That, combined with some abnormal schedules coming up, makes me think it may be wiser to postpone the 5x5 until January. I'll be away from the gym off and on for the last couple of weeks in December, which would be right when I'm supposed to be back up to my PB level. That would be *really* bad timing from what I understand of the program. Also, I've been going pretty heavy for about 3 months now and since I wasn't as strict as I should have been on my diet, i picked up a bit more fat than I should have. All that said, I think I'm going to do a bit of a cut until Jan, then go into the 5x5. Besides all the things I just mentioned, that would allow me to focus on getting my form perfected with my bent over rows (something I've done very little of). I'm afraid if I don't drop a little of the fat first it will effect my gains on the 5x5 as I'll be tempted to under eat. I'm going to keep following BMFs log (which is even more impressive now that I've done a similar routine). Thanks for all the support gang. Oh yea, your legs are *anything* but pathetic dbflgirl! *R*

It's been a long time since I did a whole body routine 3 days a week. I'll do 45 minutes of cardio on the off days and HIIT after the reg workout. *R*
