lookin' good Pammie!
I bet some of that 10# is muscle too...give yourself
some credit already! Scales are bad, hun...your body will
be shifting things around as it changes and scales can leave
you frustrated, even though you've made progress.

PammieGirl...You are doing great. I don't believe you gained 10lbs of fat just cause you took a week or so off. I believe most of it is water weight,

(water retention from foods loaded with sodium) <--watch my weight go up this weekend after a Chinese food cheat meal! LoL

Plus glycogen in your muscles. So don't worry you'll drop those lbs in no time on your LC diet.

For me it takes about 3 days to a week to lose the weight I gain from carbups or refeeds/cheat meals. I just have to be extra good on the weekends or I'll bring that water weight back up..and so the cycle begins again.

So don't fret hun...you're back on track so keep up the great work! :winkthumb

Hugs and Luv,

Have a great weekend...

My method... I been following a bulking diet for so long... but starting sunday, I begin cutting... fortunately, I've been drinking a lot of carbs and calories in the form of whole milk... if you look at my bulking & cutting diets.. they're very similar, with the exception of milk... Maybe I'm gonna be different since I don't have a weight or bodyfat goal in mynd... but I do thynk that it's possible to styll eat food, but have low calories whyle styll keeping your protein, carbs & fats relatively balanced...

My bulking diet is - 3,585 cals - 36p/35c/30f % ...
My cutting diet is - 2, 363 cals - 42p/33c/25f % ...

I don't thynk that looks too bad...

Peace..~G

You can't and you shouldn't do "low fat". You need fats in your diet to keep your metabolic and hormonal systems regulating properly. Fat also makes you feel satieted when you eat them.

Eating fat does not make you fat. Too many calories makes you fat. Having saturated fats above 7-10% of total calories is not cardio-vascular healthy. There is nothing wrong with having up to 30% (or higher) fats in your diet as long as you keep the saturated fats under control.

Healthy fats are:

nuts, cashews, almonds, walnuts, peanuts, pecans, etc.
oils, olive oil, canola oil, fish oils
fish, salmon, other cold water fish
natural peanut butter

You can't live on protein alone. You will have to eat mostly protein and fats (a ketogenic diet) or protein, carbs and fats (a more balanced diet). Either way you need fats.

i totally agree rad...interestingly i have found that when i am on low carb i have to have my fats extremely high...like in the 45-65% range...but when i am low cal i like 15-25%...

man i feel great today!

ok...first off lemme tell you the story of me and the scale...i feel kinda like i need to own up here...i didnt mention any actual numbers yesterday because i was ashamed at what i saw on the scale...but i have always tried to stay absolutely honest in all my journals, so i feel like i am being dishonest if i dont lay it all out with actual numbers...ALSO, i realized after stepping on the scale this morning, that all my gain is water weight and it is dissolving before my eyes! so here we go...lol
shockingly, yesterday morning the scale said i weighed 232lbs(gasp! :mask: )...THIS morning it says 227lbs ( well it fluctuated between 227 and 225)....thats a 5-7lb loss of water weight overnight! yay! ( ok..now i feel better)
i know for a fact all that extra weight showing on the scale CANNOT be fat from a mere week and a half of eating like crap....hahhaa.... i KNOW its water weight.
tomorrow the number will be even lower...
i am beginning to get back my confidence...feels fabulous!

well i slept in this morning....sooo nice....and its a nice cool afternoon so i have all the doors and windows open and theres a fantastic breeze flowing throughout the entire house...so very relaxing! the kids are being their normal annoying self running their mouths and fighting ( NOT relaxing), but i have decided to tune them out today and enjoy myself. it feels wonderful being back on track and i wont let anything ruin my positive attitude!!

i HAD planned to do a HIIT first thing this morning, but i think im going to cook breakfast first and take my time. the way the weather is, i can do this HIIT anytime i decide to today...SWEET!

hope all is well with you all! i will be back later after my HIIT to log it in!

The fat percentage is very high. That should be your percentage for protein on a keto diet. I can't believe you can get that much fat from nuts, olive oil and fish. IOWs, what do your saturated fats look like on that diet?

well my protein percentage is usually VERY high as well...45-50% and above sometimes ( the first 3 days my protein has been 49%, 38%, 29%)....and carbs are 2-15% (6%, 8%, 8% first 3 days)....fats may seem HIGH ( and they are...45%, 54%, 63% first 3 days))...but i dunno dude...its what works for my particular body...for over a year i ate this way and lost 110lbs!
im not scared about my fats being high...its all from nuts, cheese, eggs, and meat ( depending on what i have around here...the ground beef is usually the highest in fat...)...sometimes sour cream and cream cheese in the mix...yesterday the fats were so high because of the sunflower seeds (51 g fat in 3/4 c. seeds.....33 g fat in the pork loin i ate...24 g in the 1/2 c. spinach dip)....approx 20% sat fats yesterday...but thats not common...the last few days the sat fat has been...9%, 13%, and 21%...

i just started this low carb diet again on Oct 5th...so its been 3 days and i have already dropped tons of water weight...im gonna ride this like i did last time and see if i can lose this last 70lbs relatively faster than i have been losing weight ( not at ALL)...its gonna be interesting to actually map my food this time and see what my ratios are...PLUS i am adding cardio HIIT back in 3 times a week and 2 extra steady state cardio workouts to try and help with this fat loss.....and i started taking Sesamin yesterday! This is a full blown experiment! what fun! hahahaa....i will stay ultra low carb for this next 30 days and see where i can get...if i get relatively far i will continue on....

keep peeking in on me dude...i need your input...

Pammiebabes..congrats on the weight lost already!! :bigthumbu

Rad is right you have to have fats in your diet. I'm eating low fat and low carb...not 'No Fat' and "No Carb". I cook with olive oil, I take my fish oil caps etc. I'm just consuming fats a little lower than I usually do when LCing. One reason is cause I can overdo the fats cals no prob. it seems.

I won't get as much protein as I need when I do this. So this time around I'm making sure protein comes first..carbs and fats I play around with. I finally found the numbers that work for me to jump start my weight loss but, I'll only be at this for a short time and start cycling my carbs and fats again.

I can't wait until Dec.!! LoL

Well hunny keep on doing great...you are on your way.

Hugz,

~D~

Congratulations on your fat loss. I have no doubt that you can lose a lot more fat, even on a high saturated fat diet. My concern with saturated fats is not that you won't lose weight, but that you will increase your risk of heart disease. Our bodies can adapt to a lot of different diets, I just mention that you should be mindful of your saturated fats for the reason mentioned.

I was on a ketogenic diet for several months. I did feel very energetic on it, but I can't count fat loss as one of its benefits to me. I have moved to a more balanced diet to see if I can rid myself of the last 10 lbs. (I have more than that to lose, but I doubt that I would be able to sustain a bodyfat level below 8%.)

I wish you the best and I'll be watching.

excellent dude! i appreciate your concerns and i guarantee i will be mindful of all the points you made about fats...
youre too kewl!

HI D!! thanks so much for being such a great bud to me!

well whohooooo everyone i just completed a Verticle Push/Pull workout and i feel GREAT! everyone was just hanging around the house...being lazy...not doin much of anything....so i decided to get a lifting session in! too kewl! i love the way i feel after i lift! so glad i did it!

Verticle Push/Pull:
back/shoulders, calves

assisted pullups w/ slow negatives: 6x4@BW

towel rows: 2x5@70lbs, 4x5@78lbs

db pullover: 5x5@45lbs, 1x4@45lbs

db shoulder press: 6x4@35lbs

bb front raises: 5x5@34lbs

rear delt raises: 3 drop sets (8/4) @ 10lbs/ 7.5 lbs

seated calf raises: 4x12@ 144lbs

whew!

man i tell you what....using a real pullup bar is completely different from doing the bench pullups....i absolutely cannot pull my entire body weight up on my own...so i assist with my toes a tiny bit and then go totally slow negative...today i swear i almost didnt complete all 6 sets of 4....by the second set my forearms were screaming in pain...and when i let go of the bar for my 60 sec rest interval my fingers didnt want to uncurl...hahahaa....holy gawd these were a total BITCH! but i am proud to say i hung inthere and finished out the 6 sets....i wanted to cry a few times...hahaha....but i did it! what a RUSH!

went into towel rows after the pullups...this was the very first time i ever tried these! i have been dying to have some sort of cable pulley thing to use in my lifting...even got about halfway through making one a month or so ago...but then never finished...i cant believe i never tried these towel rows! i load up the weights on the leg extention/leg curl thing on my weight bench...then wrap a towel around the place where my feet ( or my knees) usually are...sit facing the towel on the bench and row back to my chest...hold a sec...then lower.....VERY KEWL! i totally got this different burn in my back doing these that i have never had....a good burn....felt fantastic! i will definitely start doing these a LOT more. i initially put 70lbs on, but after the first 2 sets i knew i could increase a little, so i added 8 more lbs and they felt nice and challenging! yay!

db pullover was next....i use one 45lb db on this exercise...lay on my back on the weight bench, put the db up over my head and lower back to behind my head and then back up to above my head parallel to my chest...these felt really easy the first 2 sets, but after that they became quite challenging for the last 3 sets. on the very last set i actually reached total failure ( which i normally never do) on the 4th rep, so i called it a day on those and moved on...

shoulder press was next....i like to do these standing up...i used 35lb db on each side and they felt pretty good! no pain in my shoulders...no little tweaks...i am happy!

bb front raises were next...man these are HARD for me...but dayum do i get a fantastic burn in my shoulders from them! good stuff!

rear delt raises were next...these are one of my favorite exercises...i use a 10lb and 7.5 lb db for these ( 3drop sets of 8 and 4...)...today i got a phenominal burn going...i think i really worked these shoulders good...theyve been crying since we started! hehehe whohooooo! i almost reached failure on these by the last drop set, but i dug deep and finished without failing! awesome!

last i did 4 sets of 12 seated calf raises...my calves kept cramping up on the UP and then relaxing on the down...but eventually the cramping stopped and all i had was a serious pump in my calves...gotta LOVE a good pump! hahahha

and thats it in a nutshell! it was great to get back to normal and lift again!

hopefully i will also get in a HIIT in a few hours....thats the plan!

ill be back soon!
