Default Need diet ideas. ..

After months of working on finding a time to workout I was able to modify my work schedule to fit my workouts.

I lift 4 days a week mon-thur, so far so good all is well when it comes to lifting and the gains are once again nice to see.

Here is where I hit a diet snag.
My schedule at work is rough when it cames to finding time to eat and many car guys are out of shape. Do to a diet of burgers, pizza, and soda.. I have managed to avoid most of that. But now that I am lifting on a regular basis eating often enough is hard to do.

What I need is snack food ideas right now my desk is full of power bars and peanuts. Far to often I am in the midst of a car deal and can't get near any food for hours. So by the time I do I eat like it was my last meal. I have been working on ways to avoid this.

ok go.... and thanks

dude almonds are a great snack...as well as sunflower seeds w/ cottage cheese...YUM!

i have also found that albacore tuna drained and dumped into a ziplock baggie w/ a TBS mayo is a great protein snack during the day....as well as ANY meat/veggie left over from the dinner before!! ive even been known to add a half an avacado to my tuna and YUM...or pineappe...YUMMIER!!

i also love to make a ceasar salad w/ some kind of meat in a ziplock....just toss and chow...nummy!!
'
protein shakes work too when in doubt....ESPw/ ice in a blender!

I would drop the bars.

No one seriously trying to cut should eat protein bars on a regular basis IMO.

Now, at first, if you are converting from a really bad diet, to something more healthy, the bars can have a place for a while.

However, many of those bars are so full of sorbitol that they will just bloat you up with gas and cause you to retain water.

The best advice is to plan ahead and bring something quick and easy to eat with you.

Whey protein powder is much better option than bars for a daily protein/calorie supplemet, and it usually isn't too hard to make something the night before that you can eat quickly or on the go.

Exactly what you eat will depend on how your diet is layed out, but cold chicken breasts, cold top sirloin, rice cakes + peanut butter, bananas, apple + peanut butter, etc, can all be eaten quickly without taking the time to heat something up.

Choose the option that best fits into your diet plan, but whatever you choose, planning ahead is the key!

I take two chicken sandwhiches to work: Its quick and easy

Aprox 400 calories per sandwhich, its not ideal but half is a snack and one is a meal

Thanks for the tips ..today its chicken and salads.. i am starting to feel like a rabbit. And I will stock up on peanuts

EME.. as always top notch advice... got any ideas on how to avaoid the pit falls of going a long time between meals. a few times a week i end up going 10+ hours between meals. Rather than doing a quick scarf and go I have been waiting until I get home.

I am staying rather steady at 240 which is actually not bad considering I am gaining muscle. But I should be 233-235 for my current build ..

EME's ideas are good. Here are some that I used when I was in Ecuador and couldn't get back to my apartment for every meal. (I also had some restuarants that would make chicken or fish meals for me, prepared to my specs.):

Old Fashioned Oatmeal with a splash of fat free half and half. Add nuts and/or berries. (This will last for hours.)

Tuna Fish salad. (Put in a container cold. Eat it early in the day or keep it in a cooler with icepacks.)

Pasta with marinara sauce and cold cooked chicken. Heat in microwave or eat cold.

Brown rice and beans. See this and other recipes at A.FreeRadical's Bodybuilding Recipe Collection

Canned tuna, chicken or salmon.

None of these "meals" have to be much bigger than the size of your fist. Each can be eaten in about 5 minutes. It sounds like you should be carrying a cooler with 3-5 meals in it for those long days.

I hope this helps.

I have a soft breifcase with a hot/cold food bag inside it (attracts less attention than your average Igloo cooler. I keep chicken breast strips and organinc wheat tortillas in it. Along with some NF cottage cheese and milk and brocolli. Like Rad said, make it a small meal. A couple of spoons of CC and a few bits of chicken rolled up in a tortilla (you can eat these easily on the run.

When I have those long meetings, I'll slam some 100% whey and milk on my way to/from a restroom break. Takes only a couple of seconds to slam one. I keep the shaker bottle in the cooler so I don't have to was it out right away.

Just my .02 dollars

You know when you tell the customer that you are going to present their offer on a car to your "manager"?

Before you actually do that make a stop at your break room refridgerator and eat a chicken breast.
