Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 5 | I guess I will start a progress thread also. I have one going at bb.com, but it's always good to get input from different people. Currently:................................Goals Height:........5'5".................6'2" (yeah, as if )Weight:.......224 lbs............200lbs Body fat:.....22-24%...........14% Waist:.........43".................38" Chest:.........48".................same for now, but 49-50" eventually Neck:..........17.5"...............same Biceps:........17".................17.5-18" Thigh:.........27"..................same Calf:...........17"..................same I've been doing a ckd for the past 2+ weeks. When I started 2 weeks ago I weighed in at 228.5 lbs. One week later, I weighed in at 224. Most of the weight loss was water, of course, from restricting carbs. After my weekend recarb of 2 meals of pasta and 1 of pancakes, I shot up to 229 Monday morning. A gain of 5 lbs in 48 hours has to be water. I was peeing like a racehorse yesterday after ending my recarb Sunday night. The weight has not been coming off in the past no matter what macro ratio I followed. I am insulin resistant and have Metabolic Syndrome. I am told that people with insulin resistance and Metabolic Syndrome do very well on ckds. I've increased my cardio (well, anything more than nothing is an increase) and do a couple of aerobics classes (spin, step and eventually kickboxing) at the Y, and walk a couple of nights a week when I don't take classes. The walks are about 2 miles in 36-37 mins. I do a 4 day weights split: Sun, shoulders and triceps. Overhead presses, side raises, triceps work; cardio: an aerobics class or an outdoor walk, 2 miles in 36-37 mins. Mon, legs. Squats and/or leg press, leg extensions, leg curls. Tue, cardio. A step class at the Y or a 2 mile walk in 36-37 mins. outdoors. Wed, chest and triceps. Flat bench and/or dumbells, incline, a machine press, triceps work. Thu, cardio. An aerobics class at the Y or my outdoors walk. Fri, back and biceps. Rows, occasional deadlifts (need to do more often), pulldowns, shrugs, biceps curls. Sat, cardio. An aerobics class at the Y. Weights are usually 3-6 sets (smaller muscles) or 9-12 sets (larger muscles) of 6-8 reps and/or a pyramid of 12,10,8,6. For example, my shoulders workout Sunday was seated overhead presses (barbell) of 12,10,8,6 increasing weight, then a seated machine press of 3 sets of 8 reps then 3 sets of 8 reps side raises. At the risk of repetition, this link The bull has a thick hide... shows pics when I first started working out 11 years ago, and fairly recently. OK, so let's go... Chunk to Hunk in progress.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 5 | I've been doing ckd since Aug. 2. I can definitely see a difference, for the better. I'm wearing pants today that were so snug that they were not only uncomfortable, but unwearable. They are size 40 Claibornes I got in Macy*s last December. I made the real big mistake (at the time) of buying them by size, not trying them on, and having them hemmed to my length. When I went to wear them, I said "oh crap! they don't fit". So they've hung in the closet since then. I noticed my Dockers were fitting looser, so I thought I'd try these slacks. Lo and behold, they went on like a glove and are actually comfortable. Oh, I've got room for improvement, but now I have another pair of pants in the wearing rotation. Now, the piece de resistance ("Tish, you spoke French!") is that I took out the tape measure last night, measured my waist and found it down 1.5" from when I started ckd. Yay! A whole inch and a half gone to the Outer Darkness. My immediate goal is a 38" waist. Dockers and jeans can shrink; my dress slacks can be altered. My significant other has been commenting that I am showing muscle cuts and growth. I have a definite triceps horseshoe, and a quads teardrop. Not much change on the scale, but I'm doing Max-OT which I think is building muscle... my lifts are increasing. Also my blood glucose, fasting, 2 hours postprandial and post-exercise, is coming down. I had a fasting glucose the other day of 93. It's been in the 90s post prandial, and in the high 70s/low 80s post exercise. I'll get my official blood work next week. I'm hoping to see some improvements in lipids and blood glucose. We didn't do insulin this time. But given that my b.g. is coming down and my gut is shrinking, it's a sure bet the insulin resistance is diminishing. Like the song said, "The Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades".

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 5 | It's been over two years since I made an entry here. I felt kind of left out seeing some other people I know updating and posting their progress. In a way I'm embarrassed that I don't seem to have made a lot of progress from where I was before. It's been an uphill battle with trying to find out how to eat to lose the fat and keep the blood work in line. To that end, I guess I have made progress. I stopped keto not too long after the original post in this thread. And I gained a lot of weight. Some of it was muscle, undoubtedly. But a lot of it was fat. But I've been back on keto since February 2007, and I've finally made some fat loss progress. It's very slow because of this insulin resistance (on metformin and Byetta), and not doing as much cardio as I should. Sometimes I think the only way to get rid of this abdominal fat is to have surgery to have it scooped out. I've been mountain biking but now that the weather has turned wet and rainy, and dark early I'm not getting out as much as I'd like or should. I guess the cardio machines at the gym are in my immediate future. ![]() I'm back on my "winter routine": during the summer with all the biking I wasn't working my legs. But now with less biking I'm back to working them in the gym. I do 9-12 total sets for each body part, 8-10 reps per set. Mon. Legs: squat and/or leg press; leg extensions; curls or sldl. Wed. Chest & tris: bench (bb or db) and/or machine press; incline press; peck deck; pushdowns and/or cgbp; overhead extensions; dips. Thu. Back & bis: cable, machine and/or bb rows; rack pulls or dl; face pulls; shrugs; db, ez and/or cable curls. Going to get back into power/hang cleans. Sat. Shoulders & arms (again): Superset: a. Side raises 3x8-10 b. Front raises 3x8-10 c. Reverse flyes 3x8-10 Repeat a.-c. 2x more. Overhead presses 3x8-10 Arms: db, ez and/or cable curls; pushdowns and/or cgbp; overhead extensions.
