By the way -- this is totally OT -- but do you know what's going on with the forum page? I can't see any of the graphics on it. The main site page is fine and so are the individual threads. Weird. | |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 16 | Morning, JJ! I'm just starting the training this week & not until I have my bike back from the shop. :p I wanted to start today, but life has gotten in the way & I'm not heading to Kiawah until tomorrow. No bike until then. Today, I'll be doing a bunch of errand stuff getting ready to depart to the beach for a month or so. . . . ![]() LOL, dbflgirl. I'm glad you found that. And yes, you can pull rank. I don't like being in charge. I'm a happy little follower. ![]() And isn't GameDay a cutie?! ![]() |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 16 | I woke up with a hellacious hangover this morning! How'd I get it? I drank too much. We went to see Tim McGraw and Faith Hill last night. I really liked him in concert -- I really did not enjoy her in concert (although I love her music). I had a Long Island Ice Tea and 3 beers and that did me in. Today, I've been busy, busy, busy! I woke up -- with the headache. Walked the dog. Went to my golf lesson. Now, that was fun. She filmed me and everything. She said the only problem in my golf swing is that I need to shorten up my backswing. Other than that, she said my form was fantastic and that I had a lot of power in my swing. She thinks things are going to really look up with my drives once we straighten out that small problem. I hope so. She said my swing looked a lot like Nancy Lopez's and then showed us side by side on the computer progressing through our swings. Although, I agreed the swings looked a lot alike -- I sure can't play like Nancy Lopez. ![]() When I came home from the lesson, there was something in the driveway and I didn't really notice it until I was riding over it. (I had golf swing thoughts in my head). Well, it looked sizeable and I thought it was a baby alligator, so I went back to check. It was a dang snake that was huge! It was head up and alert and looking at me. It seemed like it was as long as I was and it was thick -- brown -- with a pattern -- and a head that was bigger than it's body. Not good. I backed into the garage and watched it for a few minutes, but when it started moving I closed the garage. I didn't want it visiting. Next, I went to the grocery store and came back -- always a haul on Kiawah Island. Then, I drove into Charleston to drop Brittany off so she could get her car and more of her things. After that, I finally rode the first 10 miles on my road bike for the MS150 training. If you've never been on a road bike, clipped into the pedals, it's hard to describe -- but I had forgotten how pitched forward it feels as the seat is higher than the handle bars. The dude at the road bike store told me when I picked up my bike the other day that mine definitely put me into an agressive position -- more so than Brian's -- and he feels like he's really pitched forward. Anyhoo, I made it and I'm alive and I clipped out just fine. I'm not sure what tomorrow's ride is supposed to be -- I'll have to check the schedule -- but I'll be doing it early in the a.m. -- around 6:00 to 7:00 -- so there won't be a bunch of people/cars out there. Plus, the weather is much more pleasant that time of the day for wearing a cycling helmet, gloves, kotex shorts & the wonderful shoes that go with the clipless pedals. Okay -- that's it. |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 27 | Hey Hib, Eek!!! BIG Snake.....I used to have corn snakes, but they were small and agile. They both escaped outta the cage I had....they now live in freedom, most likely in my walls.. Its good to hear you're out and training finally, in spite of your hangover. So how far is your drive? I play golf occasionally. I can't hit too far..out of practice. Gotta start golfing again later this summer! |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 16 | Hi JJ! The Terminix dude that was out here said it looked like a copperhead. Lovely. ![]() Well, I golfed a year -- then took about a year and a half off. That's the extent of my golfing experience. Anyway, I've golfed twice (actually golfing out on the course) since I started golfing again and I plan on continuing this time. I don't have a driver yet -- I use my 3 wood. Brian says I'm hitting it around 160 to 180 yards. The instructor said that once I shorten up my back swing, things should be better. She also wants to work with me getting my legs into the motion better as I tend to be all arms. She was surprised at how far it went considering I'm not using my major muscle groups as much as my arms. Maybe that's a good sign once I'm able to straighten things out (in about 5 years probably. LOL!) Hey cool -- at Golfforwomen.com, I just found out this info: The National Golf Foundation has calculated that the average woman player hits her drive 140 yards and her fairway wood 120 yards--75 percent of the average man's distance. Based on that, a course that measures 6,300 yards from the white tees--a very common yardage--should be around 4,725 for the average woman. In other words, playable. I guess I'm not doing as poorly as I thought. |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 16 | Okie dokes -- getting used to riding a road bike again. I felt more comfortable on the bike this morning, but Lordy it was windy. I rode half on the trails & half on the road -- depending on where I was on the island. A little girl -- around 3 or 4 -- almost took me out on the trail. She was so cute! She said, "Daddy, I almost hit her!" Ain't that sweet? It was good practice getting out of my clipless pedals quickly. Anyway, I went 12 miles today as per my schedule and definitely need to work on average speed. I'm sure it will hop back up there shortly. It's a pain on the trails here, because they're curvy. (yeah, yeah)Next, is eating something because I did that ride on an empty stomach & then Britt and I are going to sun our buns at the pool. Oh -- and gross -- the dog threw up four times this morning -- once like a hairball and the other two times like freagin egg white slime or something. Then he went crap on the floor! Not acceptable. LOL I've put him in the laundry room and he hasn't done it sense. He's not feeling well, I suppose. I'll call the vet if he keeps it up. ta-ta! |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 16 | Hi pammie! Thanks! Nicky is feeling better now. He must have just had an upset tummy.Okie dokies -- so, I like the new gym at Kiawah. I can't remember the brand of the machines they have -- but I actually liked them -- kind of felt like Hammer Strength stuff. The view was beautiful while warming up on the fancy smancy treadmill -- a really long lap pool, the marsh & water. Plus, the treadmill had a t.v. on it -- The Today Show was playing, but I didn't turn on the sound. After warming up 5 minutes at 3.6mph and 4% incline, I did my workout. This machine was kind of like a bi-lateral pulldown, so I'll call it that -- can't remember what it was called -- something funky 12 reps X 70lbs 10 reps X 80lbs 10 reps X 90lbs *Oh, by the way -- he was way too young (and, oops -- I'm married!) -- but nice eye candy -- one of the employees at the fitness center. ![]() Low Row 12 reps X 60lbs 10 reps X 70lbs 10 reps X 80lbs Hyperextensions*Yay -- I love doing these and don't have one at my home gym. I'm going to get one, though, and a sissy squat -- one of these days. 4 sets X 15 reps each set Incline Chest Press using Dumbells*This was too funny. I've been so slack & not so strong anymore, but everyone in this gym was using 8lb dumbbells or 20 & 30lbs on the machines. They looked at me like I was a freak of nature. 12 reps X 20lb dbs 10 reps X 25lb dbs 10 reps X 30lb dbs 6 reps X 35lb dbs **Asked the dude if they had a pec dec -- nopesies. They have a funky cable looking set-up -- but, I wasn't in the mood to learn how to use it today. Dumbbell Flyes 12 reps X 15lb dbs 10 reps X 20lb dbs 10 reps X 20lb dbs 8 reps X 20lb dbs That was all I did today. I may actually frequent this gym regularly. :p Oh, and I stretched between sets like a good girl. Live long and prosper. |
