Default Hello Again

Hey Everyone,
Long time no see. Sorry I've been out of the net for awhile. Been real busy during the past several months gearing up for my rotation to the sandbox. I've been in country for about 6 weeks now, and things are going fairly well. I'm still lifting heavy, we've got a great gym at our Firebase, and I'm trying hard to maintain some kind of routine working out with everything else that goes along with my job. I'm also making a concerted effort to get back to this board regularly and keep everyone updated. Enclosed is a couple of recent pics of our gym, doing IV training (i'm the one on the cot), and one of me with some of my guys.

Hey 1st great to see you back! Thanks for sharing the pics they really give a good look at your daily life. The gym actually looks pretty well equiped, better then I would have guessed and the guy doing the IV training looks like he's making a mess of you...lol. I hope he's not going into medicine.

Hey Guys,
The gym's pretty well equiped and we're in the process of trying to get a leg press. The DB's go to 100 lbs, so I can't complain too much. The really nice thing about it is the squat rack is all mine. Everyone else uses the smith machine. As for my medic, yes he's my medic, a little blood loss never hurt anyone when giving IV's. Besides I found most of it that I lost. I'll try to upload more pics as our rotation grinds on.

Thanks RaSP. The guys tease me about taking pics at the gym, but I assure them it's not for my ego it's to show someone 10 years from now I could actually do it. I'm hoping to hit 475 or 485 in about a week. And God willing 505 by the end of the month. Problem is this Army stuff really cuts into my personal time.

I'm working on just increasing my 1RM right now on squats and deads. I hit 495 3 times squatting yesterday.

Yes they were to parallel. At least numbers 2 & 3 were. I don't think I went deep enough on the first one. I think I was trying to get used to the crushing weight on me.

BTW...yesterday...I broke 500! I squatted 505 twice. First one was admittingly weak, but parallel or pretty darn close...but number two was definitely deep! Another heavy squatter out here at my firebase teased me because I was wearing a belt and had knee wraps on...but he's nearly 12 years younger than I am.

Dayum dawg.. that's insane squat and deadlyft numbers... ya know what.. u guys have just inspired me to do a powerlifter type routing... Maybe I'll just do squats, deadlyfts and bench presses... that's it... Ok.. I lyke t-bar rows too... so lemme throw that one in there two.. Give me a year... and a gallon of milk a day... Hey Everyone....
I know, I know...it's been too long...no excuses given. Been busy either out on patrol or working in the base camp. I've had little time to just hang out on any of the boards I used to frequent anymore. However, let me play a quick game of catch up since I did it on that other site.

Let's see...we're officially half way through our deployment now, 17 weeks and two days down. Poppy (Opium) season has come and is just about over. Found out I'm allergic to the stuff...never had allergies of any kind before...but never been exposed to acres and acres of opium before either.

Been working out hard every chance I get, (of course the gym is our only form of entertainment in the firebase too). I just finished my "heavy" cycle a couple of weeks ago. Raised my flat bench back to 325 for 1 rep, my squats are now at 505 (new PB)for 4, and DL hit 495 (new PB). I've done the DL on 4 different occasions without problems. But 505 still won't come off the floor but an inch or two. I'm now working with lower weights and higher reps, although I'll probably try to go heavy again right before I leave this place...maybe my last 8 weeks or so. See how I'm feeling.

Tore my lower back up about a month ago during a raid on a compound. Being 6'2" and 225 covered in body armor mags, weapons, etc. is not conducive to maneuevering through tight passage ways and narrow doors. On the plus side, at that size...when you clothesline and sweep the bad guy's legs simultaniously....he goes down hard and stays KO'd for a couple of hours....it was a fun day.
BTW...my back is all better now. Toradol(sp?) is a wonderful friend of mine.

Been in a few firefights, not much too 'em, not a lot to write home about, seems the bad guys don't want to come out and play too often...then again maybe it's the firepower we bring to the game. miniguns, grenade launchers, heavy and medium machine guns, rifles, explosives, grenades, pistols, etc....

I'm attaching a few pics from the last couple of weeks, and I'll try to get on here a little more often....
#1 is my DL of 495 from the floor...pic was taken too soon but I got lockout
#2 my commo guy wanted me to throw him a pose when I was walking past (tank tops is about all I wear out here)
#3 was from about 3 weeks ago when we were doing a recon of a bridge sight...that's all opium behind me
#4 was from last week, I gave out some candy to some of the kids we passed while out on patrol
