Cool Fyghting Cravings - A How To Guide!!

Arrgh... well part of my mod-ly duties is to create new threads every now & then to get you guys talking besydes thyngs other than your workouts... Thys tyme, I'll deal with somethyng I'm going thru.. Cravings!!!

As you know.. I've never cut before... I've always been a skinny bastard and after a 9/10 month bulk.. I've decyded it's tyme for a cut.. (even tho everyone says I'm gonna disappear!! ) ...

Ryght now, I lyke my diet... but I'm styll craving all the foods that was available to me when I was bulking... Hmm.. I'm gonna have to seriously reconsider not having a cheat day... in fact.. I'm adding it immediately... *D ... But to all my dieters/cutters out there... how do you deal with the cravings?? I want cookies.. I want potato chips... I want a chocolate... Can I have it??

Maybe a small portion and not the whole thyng??? Is there a certain food I should try instead.. lyke fruit..??? Should I drink more water...???

Post all tips, suggestions.. techniques.. etc.. etc.. etc..

Peace..~G

Drink water when you are craving different foods Dawg. It does not always work, but if you drink enough it will fill you up and you can probably forget the cravings.
Walk, find something beside think about the cravings you are focused on.
Do something in other words besides think of foods or sweets!
Keep your diet clean and don't do cheat days until you get past the cravings.
Keeping the diet clean will prevent the craving after awhile. And, as much as I know you hate to hear this, carbs make you crave! Keep them down in your diet. And of course when you do eat them make them the good carbs.
Protein fills you up. Eat foods higher in protein when you crave.
Leave the fats and carbs alone.
I could go on and on about the things to prevent cravings, but the one thing that will work everytime is your will power. Us it, and you will not eat anything that you crave.
I am a good one to be posting this believe me, so after I post it, I am going to read it, and practice what I preach!!
Hope some of it at least helps you.

The only things that have worked for me are:

(1) Out of sight, out of mind. If I hide it from myself (LOL), I won't eat it. I just stay away from the craving causing foods.

(2) Sign up for a contest. Knowing I have to put my ass on stage with hardly any clothes on worked like a charm.

when i am craving, i go eat some sort of green , leafy veggie...you can eat a boatload of those things every day and never gain an ounce!!

i also try to just stay focused and make myself totally accountable for what i eat. keeping track by being involved in a contest ( like hibby said) is VERY helpful...i find doing either a supplement log, or some sort contest helps keep things in perspective for me.

course if i let myself go, i go hog wild...hahahaa....so i have to HAVE CONTROL...i am only just now learning the true meaning of CONTROL...its very difficult!! but if i keep my head on straight and stay away from ALCOHOL...hahaha...i usually can be totally strict with myself without any problems. but like i said before, i am just NOW figuring this all out...hahaha

when i crave chocolate i have a few small pieces of Lindt chocolate and it totally soothes that craving bigtime!

also sugarfree jello is fabulous! its saved me many a night when i wanted something sweet.

dieting sucks! hahahaaaaa

Cool Jello's Out..

Can you believe it ... I can't fynd any Jello here... I'll try again tomorrow... That's unbelievable... In fact... there was a thread about Skittles and I got to thynking... - I haven't had Skittles in a long tyme... so I looked.. and Nope... there aren't any skittles here either... Man, thys country's gonna go crazy when they get some Skittles here..

On another note.. I found a store called healthy options at the mall where my gym is... They have a lot of sugar (carb) free & fat free stuff... I'm definitely gonna be paying them a visit because they had sugar & fat free candy... I dunno how good it's gonna taste, but I have one helluva sweet tooth... so anythyng will help..

Also, I just found my new bulking secret... they have a brand of noodles here called Pancit Canton... Oh my gawd, it's so delicious... The band usually eats a double serving of it after shows... I just realized that it's 270 calories per serving... GEEZZ!!! ... I been eating double orders for a long tyme!! ... Well.. I was gonna rework my diet to include Pancit Canton, whyle styll getting less than 2000 cals a day.. but that's not gonna happen.. ... However.. the stuff is less than 6 pesos per pack... and remember a dollar is 56 pesos... so I'm looking at .. maybe $.10 per pack??? .... & it's absolutely delicious as hell... so as soon as I start bulking, the Philippines may have a Pancit Canton shortage cause I'm gonna be eating thys stuff left & ryght & down the middle... Sigh.. I can't wait until I bulk again..

--- Thanks for all the great posts so far... keep them coming... I was gonna try Tea.. but it doesn't sound so appealing without sugar... ... maybe sugar free honey??? I thynk honey may be expensive... I don't thynk they have bees here... .. no seriously... flies yeah.. bees.. nope.

Peace..~G

Hey Game...easy on that SF candy...if it has sugar alcohol it may give you one hell of a tummy ache and not to mention having to run to the loo every second!

They must have Jello...maybe not the brand but, unflavored gelatin? You could always mix in your own flavor if you find some type of SF kool-aid or any other type of SF juice? Or get primative and squish some blueberries or something. LoL

I use to make gummy worms out of Jell-o..desperate times I tell ya. I have the recipe if you want it. Hope you find the gelatin first tho.

Uhm...as for sweetners...do they sell Stevia? I bought some about 6 months ago and still have some left. I use it to sweeten tea and coffee when I drink them. I also use it in kool-aid when I make it for my kids. Just don't go overboard cause it gets bitter...a little goes a long way.

What about Jicama? It kinda tastes like an apple (but, lower in carbs)..you can slice it and even eat it raw. It's sweet too. I use to buy it...slice it thinly..spray a plate with Pam then nuke em in the micro. sprinkle a little cinnamon over top. 'Apple' crisps. LoL

If all else fails...eat the junk you want and burn heck out of those cals at the gym. :p Maybe it's worth it? LoL

Oh yeah...I'm so happy cause the other day I found Carb Countdown Fat Free Dairy Beverage at my grocery store. :bigthumbu
I also found some really nice tasting bevarage called "Avena Finesse Drink 0% fat"..Avena is Oatmeal in Spanish. It's sweetened with sucralose and has 68 cals per serving...and 11gr carbs, 4.6 gram protein and no fat. I drank mine post workout.

I also found that Apple Butter spread BDM had mentioned in a thread. Pretty good stuff.

That's it for now.

i usually dont crave that many things, what i do though is usually a cheese steak and fries, every time i go out with my girlfriend ill get wings and a salad, what really does help me fight cravings though is keeping a bodybuilding mag somewhere in my house, so every time i get a craving for unhealthy food ill just flip through and see some pictures

being out of the house is also a big one for me to fight cravings

I think it's key to look at the long term. When not dieting (well occasionally when dieting ) if I want a piece of cake, or some pizza and ice cream or whatever now and then, I will have it. It's not a regular occurance and I don't plan to complete. I workout and exercise regularly. I HATE dieting, so when I'm craving things I look at the long term. That junkfood will make me have to diet longer. Not cool! It's all about self-restraint and willpower really. There are tricks such as gum etc, but in the end, it comes down to you. Will that cookie help your physique aspirations? No sir!

I have actually just increased my cals and carbs (reduced deficit) and this is making dieting alot easier. Not only am I less "ravenous" but some of the cravings have gone.

Actually, I thought you were supposed to drynk half a bottle of wine before you go onstage??? I check ya log buddy.. I couldn't believe you did another 10 sets of Squats so close together... Props for that.. because I wouldn't have did it...

On another note... I do have to admit that the cravings for junk foods has dramatically decreased... I dunno if it's just the fact that it's week 2 or what?? ... but if I keep feeling lyke thys.. I may have to force myself to have a cheat meal or cheat day... In fact.. I'm not so hungry anymore either.. Which is weird, because before I started lyfting.. I was perfectly content to just have one or two meals a day... In fact, there would be tymes where I'd be doing somethyng.. and then I'd stop to ask myself.. ??? "Did I eat today??" ... Then I started lyfting again & eating 6 - 7 tymes a day to bulk... and I was gorging myself at each meal... then when I figured that out... eating became routine... and then I found myself starving even tho I was styll getting 4/5 meals a day... I'm weird..

Peace..~G

Cool 5 years & counting...

I hate to get thys off-topic slightly but...

Well Pup, you're styll welcomed here... as we've been around the block a few tymes whyle u're styll in the house getting whacked for not urinating on the newspaper... You could learn a thyng or two from us... In fact, the trade off will probably be even... as we enjoy learning from you young bucks & your youthful enthusiam keeps me, personally, motivated sometymes ... so u're welcomed here as long as you keep it RESPECTFUL ... ... At that other place, I was 30, whyle it was supposed to be 35 and up... so I don't really care to make thys place "age-exclusive" ... & don't say you can't learn anythyng from us because I'll have to cut & paste all the praise that you gave EME for showing you the ropes... He may look 19, but he's firmly entrenched in our happy little Over 30 family...

It didn't take long for me to realize that these folks deserve more praise than the younger generation for fynding their way into the gym... You're dealing with folks that have children & grandchildren... single parents or spouses... Bills, Bills, Bills... Full tyme or sometymes two jobs... and styll manage to workout... That takes a lot... and it's even harder when you stop lyfting at 25.. then look at yourself when you're 36 and realize.. Wow!! I don't have the body I did 10 years ago... and actually summon the courage to return to a gym and start over again... It's not easy man... Being older, there are injuries to deal with... bad knees, back, elbows, hips... little aches & pains that feel a lot worse when you're not 25 anymore...

Me... well, I nearly died when I was 27... Most folks here have seen & heard the story before... I'm thankful for everyday that I get & I hope to live as long and 2 be as strong & healthy as some of the members you'll fynd here in the over 30 section... ... We're a lotta thyngs here.. but suckers?? Naw, never that. Respect son, Respect.

Peace..~G
In 5 years.. I'll be the one to move your log to the Over 30 section.. *D

LOL...

By the way... just thought I'd mention that I was 191.5 this morning! :eat:

As I type I'm eating my 5 cups of rice and 2 cups of ground beef.

Come on 200!

Currently, I have two scheduled cheat meals per week... Occasionally, I throw another one in there, since I know I will be going without any cheats for several months after the first of the year.

That usually takes care of the cravings for me.

Thanks GameDay!

Yes, it's the WNSO, and they do have some great prize money... on the level of the biggest IFBB shows.

I just sent them an e-mail today asking if they had the prize money for the June 2006 Pro show determined yet.

I'm not sure that I'll break into the prize money this year.. but I definitely plan to be going for one of the top spots in the next few years. This year will be a big step up in competition, so I'm just looking to make my best showing and have a great time. But, make no mistake, I'm definitely going to bring it!

I have to keep eating now though, because I have some big time mass to add before next year when I have to start cutting again. I may need to add in another cheat meal here and there for now. :nosthumbs
