Yeah, if I moved off vertical on the press just an inch they would start to go. On another thread Powerman is asking me if I had my wrists wrapped. Hmmm. Maybe that would help to get more stability.

might be worth tryin.....i just hate to think of having to use that. i am now using a lifting belt on squats and deads and stuff and i hate the idea of relying on it. but as i get older i don't want to get an injury that might deprive me of achieving more in the iron game. so.....we do what we have to i guess.

I guess we could get philosophical here..., so why not?

There is the safety issue of the belt and that is important. I have a good strong back at 61 years old and I want to keep it that way. There is also the stability issue that the belt affords. A belt helps me to lift more weight because of the abdominal pressures that are exerted against the belt. More weight means increased strength and eventually more mass. That is a good trade off in my book.

As for wraps, I think it is the same issue. If I can lift heavier dumbbells, then I gain strength and mass. I really don't care about grip strength. I don't use that much in my life. Same way with knee wraps. They protect the knees as we lift heavier and heavier. I am not a great squatter (because I don't have great legs yet), but I can now squat much heavier without knee wraps than I could a year ago. Wraps have helped me do that. (My legs definitely look better than they used to.)

Bottom line, for me is, these are all tools of the trade. And yes... we do have to factor in age. I don't know how long I can continue doing this. There are only 2 guys in my gym who are in their 70s that still lift. They can't lift like I do. That is probably my future as well. Bring on the walker with olympic bar option and I'll use it.

Just thought I would chime in here - have you seen these? COUNTRY POWER INC. I've never used them but they seem very sensible for what you are describing. There is a short video you can watch on that site as well if you scroll down a little.

Excellent Davtown. That solves the getting set up problem of heavy DB weights. (When I am walking around, sitting down, lying down with two 100 pounders in tow, I feel like an accident waiting to happen.) I am going to get these.

This made me laugh! At my old gym, there was a woman there who was 82. if you saw her from the back, you'd swear she was a young woman -- her physique was awesome. I am not kidding when I say I would trade.

Anyway, you can lift for a long time, I think. I am not sure what takes people out of the gym, but I don't think it's all age specific. Even in my new gym, there are quite a few guys in their 70's and maybe a couple in their 80's. (This is the one upside of being in Florida -- I am still a kid here!).

Hope you're having a great weekend.

I am having a great weekend.

I drank a little too much last night. I suffered in the gym today. I'll do better tomorrow.

Default Saturday was Back Day

Deadlifts, 5 x 225 x 8
Cable Pulldowns, 5 x 180 x 8
Cable Rows, NG, 5 x 180 x 8

I was feeling a bit off today. I decided to go with volume and keep it simple. No PBs today. After this, I went home and took a nap. Tomorrow is Chest Day. My diet has been good today. I hope for better things tomorrow.

As to the bulk, that is going quite well. Per schedule, I am only gaining 1 lb per week (3 lbs in 3 weeks.) I would say half of the gain is muscle. The other half... is on my waist.

I saw my daffodils coming up today. Spring is coming, yeeeessss.

Congrats, Rad! You are going to be an "Epicurean Hercules" when you come off your bulk.
**Anyone remember that show with Kevin Sorbo? Boy, he was zexy!***haha

Is spring coming? I still have yet to see any daffodils. It snowed here 4 days ago Wish I was hanging out at your place, Rad.

No, I do remember Steve Reeves as Hercules. (Is my age showing?)

Yep, I saw daffodil shoots yesterday. It is supposed to get below freezing for the next week. Sping can't be far behind.
