We all start small. I go back to my first workouts and it's neat to see how much I have advanced. Back then I was still proud of how heavy I was lifting...it's what got me to this point. You are doing the same. Slow and steady. ![]()

![]() Right now I'm mostly maintaining some muscle while I cut. (and that's really hoping it's just fat I'm losing). I expect by mid-dec to have lost a bit more weight (all fat!! LoL) and I can start to bulk and gain muscle. Can't wait!!! :chubby:

How in the hell do you do 75# lunges? How do you keep your balance? How long have you been doing lunges all together? What weight did you start at?My knees have always hated lunges, but I've been giving the rear ones a try.(At the GDDog's urging.) First with a chair. Then without. Now with 5# plates. At this rate, I'll reach 75# in the year 3012. ![]()

I have found that with the barbell I have better balance than holding two dumbbells. So, maybe thats the key to getting the weight up. Keeping your balance. I know in the beginning I thought that was never going to happen with me! But I agree with SouthCaliDiva, 75 pounds may take a long time for me too!![]() Good Job Again on the Workout Girl! :bigthumbu Brenda

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 184 | LoL Thanks girls!! Brenda is right about having more balance with the barbell. My arms don't tire out before my legs do if I was holding dumbells in both hands. The barbell also creates balance. (tho. after those squats and leg extension my legs were getting a bit wobbly so I just stuck to 80lbs). hehe The first time I ever tried lunges I hated them...I still dread them to a degree. LoL The barbell I first started using was way smaller then what I'm using now...a 45lb olympic bar! (trying hard not to smash the walls with it!!) I've also done walking lunges and those have helped strengthen my leg muscles. Also step-ups...I was doing step-up's on a chair with an 85lb barbell (3x4). Those will get you ready for anything!! LoL The main thing is to keep lifting with free weights...this helps with those stabilizer muscles. You'll gradually start gaining both strength and balance. Lunges will be a breeze! (yeah right!! At least the first 2 reps! LoL)Just keep at it girls!! :bigthumbu btw: Went back to my old gym log and my starting weight with lunges was 50#. ![]() Oh....Pammie, you ROCK!! :winkthumb Thanks for the visits, Diva, Brenda & Pamz. ![]()

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 10 | I guess I am learning some things huh? Hey do you do step ups? I hate them and as of yet I am unable to step up to the bench, my legs don't what to go up that high yet for these things and again I lose my balance, so I do them on stair steps or a stepper, which I think both are too low and I am not benefiting by doing them period. Since they work the quads, do you know any other lifting that I can do in place of them? I do squats, lunges, dead lifts, and calf raises on leg day along with the step up. Just so you don't suggest any of these I let you know that I do them. I have looked on the internet and can not find anything other than what I do.I sometimes think that because of my age that some don't think I can hang, or don't have it in me to continue this, I DO!, and you have been pretty supportive since joining. So, I will ask you. ![]() If you have any suggestions I'd appriciate it. You are doing great too, so I feel confident asking you. HAVE A GOOD ONE GIRL! Brenda

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 32 | Brenda, if going up one step is too easy, then step up & down to the 2nd or 3rd step... Sometymes, on my off nyghts, I give my gyrlfriend a piggyback ryde & I climb the stairs in my condo with her on my back... I single step 1/2 way, then double step 1/2 way... There are two flights of steps between each floor... my stairs are shaped lyke thys - ">" ... instead of lyke "Z" thys.. Remember also the proper motion & feel of a step up... If you start with your left leg... try to bring your right leg up by pushing thru your left leg, the one that's on the higher step... To get the proper feel of thys movement... Stand on one leg lyke a flamingo, (balance yourself), then squat down whyle keeping one foot flat on the floor, then stand back up... You want to pretend you are going to push or drive your foot thru the floor... A good way to feel thys, is to simply sit in a chair with your foot flat on the floor and push your foot (primarily your heel) ... downward, lyke you want it to end up in the basement... When you do 10 reps, make sure it's 10 for the ryght leg & 10 for the left leg... you can do 10 straight for each leg or you can alternate between ryght & left legs... And the best way to increase difficulty is to either add more weight or do more reps... Peace..~G
