Speaking of cereal. Are you allowed to eat the whole grain cereals like, Cheerios with strawberries, or Honey Bunches of Oats with fruit?
There are no bad fats in them, the sugars are not that high, probably lower than you get with natural fruit. I see nothing that would effect the eating here, but there may be something I am missing, so that is why I am asking.

I eat cereal for a cheat. You know, there are no rules about nutrition. I mean, I feel funny saying you can eat this or you cannot eat that. It comes down to a few things:

First, what are your goals? A person who is beginning to lose weight has a lot more lattitude than someone who is already at maintenance and is looking to get competition ready. If you (not you specifically, the generic 'you') used to eat bacon fried in lard, home fries and 4 whole eggs for breakfast, then clearly Cheerios with Strawberries and some egg whites is going to be a huge improvement. On the other hand, if you're already at your goal weight and are looking to get rid of that last bit of bodyfat (you know, the bit that simply won't budge from your hips/abs/butt/whatever), then oatmeal would be a better choice. And yes, no matter what your goals oatmeal is a healthier choice, but not every morsel you eat has to be the absolute best choice. It's ok to sometimes just make good choices.

Second: How do you, as an individual, respond to Cheerios with strawberries? This is dependent on your age, insulin sensitivity, metabolic rate, health issues, etc., etc. Some people can lose bodyfat eating things that others cannot. And some people are so convinced that a particular food will sabotage them (dairy and carbs are two that come to mind) that it almost becomes self-fulfilling.

Ok, so why do I reserve cereal for a cheat? Because I want to keep my bodyfat low (I want abs). Most cereal is very processed, which simply means that it's more or less "empty" nutrition (the vitamins are added in after the fact and tend to be of low quality -- they're there just so the manufacturer can claim "a full day's worth of Vitamin C!" or whatever). In addition, highly processed foods are less thermic than less processed foods, so you tend to become hungry again sooner.

But that's just me... it doesn't have to be you.

Well I want abs too! So, for now, I will not chose the cereals I asked about. Once these abs start showing progess I will go from there. It's not that I eat the cereals, I was just reading the labels and thought they did not sound bad. But, I also don't want high processed foods in my diet, so it's definitely out of the question! I will stick to oatmeal and skim milk. I want the abs out of the kitchen as I have said before. So, only the good stuff for me!
Thanks for responding!

We should start an "I want abs" club. I agree but come to a different choice. I eat 3 whole eggs every morning. Sometimes with parmesan cheese in an omelet and sometimes fried over easy (always in extra virgin olive oil) with a sourdough English muffin w/ butter (that is my twice per week cheat breakfast).

To each his own in moderations.

I am now up to 2600 calories per day and still maintaining. (I had a vegetarian pizza (3 slices) last night for my twice per week cheat dinner.) I wonder how far I can push this. hmmmm.

I think it's the same choice. It's a matter of choosing your moderations. I eat an omelet every morning too, only mine is 1 whole egg and 3 egg whites. I put this nice, creamy goat cheese in it. So this is an indulgence of sorts, as it is fairly high in saturated fat. But... since I don't eat meat, it fits in with my day, as the rest of my meals are pretty much free of saturated fats.

That said, I think that whole eggs are a healthier choice than cheerios. I know the cholesterol police won't agree but for me, a lot of it comes down to: does this food exist in nature? Eggs do. Cheerios don't. Eggs contain nutrients my body can use. Cheerios don't (any vitamins are added, not naturally occurring).

<off soapbox>

I cook everything in extra virgin olive oil

I'd like to post my latest $ 0.02, and say that since Saturday....

Pizza, Dairy Queen Cookie Dough Blizzards, and Cheeseburgers have never tasted so good!

I'll be back to my lean bulking diet in a few days though. The fun can't last forever.

I have to get back to work as soon as I get all this Pro Tan scrubbed off!

Atta girl.

Speaking of moderations, I have decided to have a baked potato tonight. I can't remember the last time I had one. I'll still be under 75 grams of carbs for the day.
