Talking Cardio and Meditation

How's Cardio and Meditation sound for all you gent's over forty that's struggling trying to lift the same amount of weights you did like say 15 years ago?

Not to discourage heavy-liftin now but the joints do wear with time.

Default Re: Cardio and Meditation

Hahahaha.. I thynk we're lyfting more weights than we did 15 years ago... (seriously) ...

I actually do meditate, it's a great way for me to relax after work and after days where I run the streets... a lil instrumental jazz and my lava lamp...

I thynk the preferred course here tho for most of us is yoga... I have a DVD whyle a few of the others take yoga courses... definitely helps me stay flexible and the breathing is relaxing... I was skeptical, but staying flexible does help to prevent injuries and some studies believe stretching helps the muscle grow...

I don't thynk we turn our backs on any form of alternative medicine or healing techniques that'll help us stay healthy and get bigger & stronger...

Peace..~G

Haven't tried it yet but I'm only 37 so joints still work.

I agree with GDD. I lift much heavier than I could 15 years ago. I have found that using glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM capsules as well as fish oil gels has helped my joints tremendously.

I also agree with Game on the yoga. I am not doing it currently, but I have benefitted from doing it periodically over the last 3 years. I look forward to doing it again soon.

I have tried meditation a few times, but I don't think I did it properly. I would like to take some classes in meditation in the future.

In short, no I don't think cardio and meditation should replace lifting (including heavy lifting). Many scientific studies have been done on the value of lifting for the elderly. Almost all conclude that a regime of regular resistance training to be highly beneficial for older folks. The most important benefits are in weight control, heart health and also rolling back some of the affirmities that come with aging.

Cardio and meditation? Sure, but along with other forms of exercise (lifting, pilates, yoga, tai chi, bicycling, walking, hiking, swimming etc.)

Hey, welcome SeeHawk. Good question.
