I wonder if that article is for real, it's so sad. It would be great to see an organized strike.

I can't help but wonder who the blanked out names are. An organized strike durring the olympia would really say something, I'm sure Ronnie would show up for his check though.

Very sad indeed... but i dont think it is far from the truth for this huuuge guys of today... i know many guys who are on the full spectrum of drugs who train their asses off and eat and live clean as hell and arent anywhere near as big as these guys... and seeing some of these pros after they have been clean for a while it makes it hard to believe genetics plays a big of a part as many ppl claim it does...

Yes, there are a lot of pros that take a shit load of "supplements" and I am sure that they are going to jeopardize their bodies, but the article looks fake, or they interviewed some guy that wanted to look good in a magazine article. The whole I take 30 things a day thing is just rediculous. It wouldn't help you. Just my opinion.

And when they said the thing about the gay prostitute thing... I stopped reading. I hate when bodybuilders say stupid shit like that.

Yeah, I question whether or not it is real. Without any names, how can anybody say it is or isn't true? I hope it's not, but if it is, it's really sad.

Hey Peaked,

Yes, I have a Pro card in a Natural Organization.. ( WNSO )

We are urinalysis tested at every show, so you can be certain that won't be happening to me.

Even if I weren't for the drug testing, I only use legal OTC supplements, period.

No prescription anabolics, no prescription cutting drugs, no research chemicals... nothing you can't walk into your neighborhood supplement store and buy.

I remember reading that article several years ago. It's really scary what some people do to themselves in the name of building muscle.

The really sad part is that most of those guys who are doing that aren't really even making any money doing it.

There are only a handful of male bodybuilders in the world who are truly making a great living from bodybuilding. I know national level competitors who aren't even sponsored who are doing scary amounts of drugs. That's really frightening to me.

I've always said that I don't make any moral judgements about who decides to use what substances. I know it's part of our sport. It always has been, and always will be.. but, it's really getting to dangerous levels for some people now. Just think, that article is over 8 years old... imagine how much those guys are doing now.

Here is a short list of bodybuilders who have either died, or who have suffered serious health complications that have been linked to either steroid, diuretic, or other drug related complications:

( taken from various web sources )

Mohammed "Momo" Benaziza died in his hotel room in the Netherlands in October 1992 after competing in the Holland Grand Prix contest. Doctors linked his death to abuse of diuretics that bodybuilders use to lose water, in the process allowing themselves to appear hard and ripped.

Andreas Munzer, an Austrian like his idol Schwarzenegger, died of multiple organ failure 12 days after competing in the 1996 Arnold Classic. For years, he had used heavy amounts of steroids and human growth hormones.

Kenny "Flex" Wheeler won the Arnold show four times. He admits to using steroids for 18 years and says he suffered serious health problems. Two years ago, he underwent a kidney transplant.

Don Long, who competed in Schwarzenegger's show in 1997 through '99, also underwent a kidney transplant. In an interview in March's Muscular Development magazine, he says doctors blamed steroids for his health problems.

Mike Matarazzo, who lives in Modesto, underwent a triple heart bypass operation last December at age 39. An online interview with the three-time Arnold competitor hints that steroids played a role in his sudden health problem.

Orville Burke and Dennis Newman both experienced carreer ending illnesses that some have attributed to abuse of bodybuilding drugs.

This year Don Youngblood and Paul DeMayo both died. Both men's deaths have been attributed to complications from drug use, although Paul's death was said to be caused by a Heroin overdose.

Tom Price has Kidney failure that he directly attributes to long term use of steroids and diuretics. Prince's kidneys failed during his preparations for the 2003 Night Of Champions primarily because of the painkillers and bodybuilding drugs he took in large doses for many years. He overcame critical condition quickly, but he couldn't recover entirely. After dialysis treatments from April through September, his kidneys healed as much as they would. They now function on their own at 90%. Barring a transplant or advancements in medical science, 34-year-old Prince is jarringly realistic about his future: "It means in all likelihood my kidneys will give out early. I'm not going to live to be 85 years old. I will probably die younger than normal, 65 or something like that, but 65 is better than 35."

I'm sure there are more that I can't think of at the moment..

Yeah, I read an article about him. He was a great guy until his problems with over use came apon him. He said he would pump tons of steroids into himself before a competition.

Great physique.

Any idiot who reads supplement ads in magazines that claim you can look like Jay Cutler by using Cell Tech, or Ronnie Coleman by using the BSN Muscle Stack, or Dorian Yates by using Dorian Yates Approved supplements deserve to be disappointed. It's no secret that steroids are used by pro bodybuilders - Arnold Schwarzenegger was talking about using Dianabol back in the mid 70s; why would most Olympians be competing on average 30lb heavier if the only difference was advancements in legal supplement technologies?? These guys chose the life, they can deal with their choices. No sympathy from me.
