I was pulling for Jay or Günter to take down RC this year. From the pics I've seen posted it seems like RC worked on his conditioning more this year in the off-season as well, and his gut seems a bit better. I'm not sure what he did, but whatever it was it worked.

My top 10....

1. Ronnie
2. Jay
3. Gustavo
4. Gunter (very close)
5. Victor
6. Darrem Charles
7. Branch Warren
8. Melvin Anthony
9. Markus Ruhl
10. Dennis James

My opinion... Dennis James had a major gut, just as he did at the Charlotte Pro show... Ruhl streamlined his gut, and was impressive in my eyes. Yes he was holding a bit of water, but Dennis in my opinion didn't look like he deserved 6th place.

I thought Darrem should have been higher than 9th... I thought he looked better than Melvin, just as I thought he did at the Arnold Classic...

Gunter was probably the best conditioned athlete in the top 5. He was ripped to the core. I had it a toss up between him and gustavo.

Jay Cutler was Jay Cutler and hinted at retirement at the end. He is devastated. I had him second, he improved a lot, but Coleman's waist was smaller than ever.

Coleman is the king. Mr. Sandow himself. Congrats on #8.

I personally thought Jay had it all the way.

In my opinion, Jay beat Ronnie in every back pose, and his legs looked better than Ronnie's from the front. Jay had deeper seperation in his thighs, and more striation. Jay had no sign of the water retention in his back that had plagued him in past years, and his legs were dramatically improved.

Upper body from the front could have gone either way between Ronnie and Jay.

Ronnie also lost condition as the night went on, especially in his legs. His gut was also as apparent as ever, although he did do a better job of holding it in during the early rounds. Ronnies waist was trimmer than in years past, but from the side it still was bulging out many times during the evening.

One thing I noticed for the first time on Ronnie was his significant lack of tricep separation. His arms we're huge, and he had great bicep peaks.. but his tricpes were severly lacking in depth and separation. This was particularly noticeable on his side Tricep pose.

Gustavo looked surprisingly good and deserved third, much to my surprise.

Gunter looked the best he has ever looked, although he had the same problem he has always had.. he never comes dark enough. If he had been darker he might have given Gustavo a run for third. Gunters legs looked the best they have ever looked, but he is lacking in Hamstring development when compared to the others ahead of him. That and his color kept him from placing higher. He definitely brought a much improved physique to the stage this year though.

Victor has great shape and proportion but was holding too much water and was too smooth. I peronally feel there were some others who could have creeped up into the 5th place position, but his nice lines and proportions carried him over.

More to come later... off to bed now.

Glad Ronnie won. But sad that Jay lost. I ordered it and watched it over again. Damn there was a lot of technical errors!

What a joke. I agree with Jay - what's the point? Jay came in better than ever, and he slaughtered Coleman. Give up on the Olympia, Mr Cutler, and keep at it with the Arnold Classic. The money is the same, and it is apparent that the Arnold Classic is fast becoming the premiere bodybuilding contest in the world.

Default Great Pic of Gunter's improved conditioning

Here is a great pic that shows the improvements Gunter has made over the past few years.

This was definitely the most dry and conditioned that he has ever come in.
He just doesn't have the hamstrings to compete with the very top guys, otherwise he could give any of them a run for their money. Nonetheless, a very impressive physique. ( He looks a lot better since he got that nasty vein in his leg removed too! )

I always made fun of Gunter because he had always been handed places. This year he was clearly the best he has ever been. He was scary. Still needed more size to move up but he was clearly the most conditioned in my eyes.

I thought Ronnie won barely, but I guess it is all in the eyes of the beholder. I thought Ronnie's upper body was killer, and I thought he still had jay in back double biceps. Also I thought Ronnies Gut was better than it has in recent years, and his waist was much more narrow than Jay's wide waist.

Ruhl and Cormier both got in the top 15-10 placing. Neither was 100%, but I thought if Dennis James finished in the top 10, I thought Ruhl should have. Ruhl was holding water, but his waist was the smallest I have ever seen and his back was improved in my opinon. Dennis had the same gut he had at the Charlotte pro, and didn't deserve 6th in my opinion.Cormier was just off, didn't have his deep lines he normally has.

Ronnie Rockel and Kris Dim were very overlooked in my opinion. Federov was treated correctly.

I agree.. they just need to ditch the challenge round.

It was a waste of time. It was poorly run and really added no benefit to the show, in my opinon.

Also, it was obvious that the competitors didn't want to do it either.. ( maybe with the exception of Gustavo ) Most were standing around with a look of.. " Is this over yet? "
