Bodybuilder of the week #1... Albert Beckles

Nobody, I mean nobody has been on the stage for longer than Albert Beckles.

Albert was born in 1930 in Barbados (there are rumors he was actually born in 1938, but never the less he has been in the game for years). Moved to London in the early 1960's and started competing. Won Mr. Britain 1970 and 1971. Soon he joined the IFBB. Became Mr. Universe at his first IFBB pro show.

In 1985 he won the IFBB NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS at the age of 55. In 1985 he finished second to Lee Haney while he was twice Lee's age!

He won his last pro show in 1991 the Niagara Falls Invitational at the age of 61.

Albert Beckles was known for his bicep peak but his overall conditioning was great also. He posed in more than 100 shows over 5 decades.

Personally I liked his back double bicep and other poses he did from the backside. His back was awesome and did several varieties of back and bicep poses.

Albert is a very inspiring figure for those reaching their late 50's. I mean this man won a pro show at the age of 55 and looked fantastic doing it.

Awesome! I love AB, he has always impressed me and he has one of the best bicep peaks of all time.

Yep, he was awesome... totally awesome... and to think he won a show in the 1990's. I am going to find out who he faced.

I read something he said in an interview once. He was being asked about diet, and he said, "I don't give a shit what I eat. If I feel like eating 10 cups of rice and 20 chicken breasts, I'll sit down and eat them". I laughed, until I read elsewhere that apparently this took place. Dunno how true it is.
