Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 6 | ive been on a weight gainer for the past month or so and i just ran out. ive been using the GNC stuff because its really easy to just pick some up at the store. i was thinking about switching to the GNC "Mass XXX". its pretty much a protein shake and a weight gainer in one with a few other things in it. just wondering if anyone knows of a better brand or can give me advice on something else i should be taking. i figured i would ask around before i buy another months worth. |

| FDU Devils Weightlifter | I'm assuming your trying to gain weight, I would try to stay away from GNC products. Good in a pinch, but there are much better alternatives. what exactly are you looking to get from this protien? and what about your diet?

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 6 | about 5 or 6 weeks ago i found this site and it has been such a huge help to me. when i first started spending time on here i was reading a bunch about different workouts and things like that. then i started reading things in the nurtrition section of the forum and that was a huge shock to me. i always thought i was eating right but i guess i wasnt. i didnt stop eating the foods that arent so good for you (mostly processed foods) because it doesnt really matter when you are trying to gain weight. i have been working on the 6 meals per day and trying to take in a bunch of healthy food on top of the "not so healthy" things i love to eat. over all, ive added a ton of fruits and vegtables into my diet as well as things high in protein. i would rather get as much of my protein from eating instead of shakes and bars but i would never be able to eat enough in a single day to make up for what i should be taking in. for that, "warriors" post on "high protein foods" was a huge help to me. as far as what im trying to get out of it, i was told that Whey would work fine for now. i know they have a few other types they you can buy but to my disadvantage, i have not read much about them. i am on a high school budget so cheap is great but i DO NOT want to sarifice quality. any suggestions would be great. thanks guys. -Andrew- |

| FDU Devils Weightlifter | clean bulks > dirty bulks, as you won't have as much fat in them, and you know what your eating. Whey = fast acting protein, you can maximize it by taking it pre-breakfast so you can get protein to your muscles fast and get out of the catabolic state that sleep is. Secondly, its good pre/post workout to get protein to the muscles for/after the extended period of training. Personally, eating better carbs and more protien with just your whey shakes will be good to gain weight. Just eat A TON above maintenance.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 221 | TrueMass is really tasty stuff. If you can find a good price on it I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I have some Cytogainer right now that someone returned, and I can see why they did...its got almost a grainy texture to it that kinda bugs me. Mixes up ok, but not spectacular. For just a pure whey protein, you can't go wrong with either Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey or Dymatize Elite Whey. Both are cost effective, tasty, and easy to mix. Btw, don't get the Rocky Road flavored ON 100% Whey...its awful.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 28 | I like the Rocky Road Optimum whey, they must've screwed up the batches after they sent my free 5lber.. ![]() Ikaika is on point with the TrueMass and Cytogainer, if money is a concern go with BSN's Syntha-6 and just add oats to it for carbs..
