Difference between Carnitine and L-carnitine

Anyone know what the difference between Carnitine and L-carnitine is ?

Amino acids can be written differently.
I.E. l-glutamine:glutamine: (2S)-2-amino-4-carbamoyl-butanoic acid

its similar to saying propane or n-propane

Thank you very much for the info and the site. I asked because was ordering Alcar and saw those options to had no idea what was what.
