| Der Leutnant | What does everyone normally do about whey on off days? I usually take 1-2 servings first thing in the morning and rely on whole food proteins for the rest of the day. It just seems like because of it's extremely fast absorption rate it wouldn't be half as very beneficial outside 24 hours from your last workout. Call me stupid, but I think i'd rather save my money. Granted, I'd still be getting about 250-300 grams without the extra from whey. What do you guys think? ps....i apologize if it sounds likie a noob question.....but I've really been contimplating this quite a bit lately.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 51 | For me, using Whey comes down to convenience. I use it every day to make sure I get my necessary protein. Remember, your body is growing on your off days, and it needs protein on those days just as much as it does on your training days if you want to make maximum gains. During the week, I simply can't always take the time to eat chicken or tuna twice per day, during the work day.. but I can take 5 mins and mix a whey shake and chug it down. I have one every workday at 9:30 AM and 3:00 PM. Also, as far as cost per serving, you'd be hard pressed to find a whole food that is as inexpensive. Even Tuna costs more per serving than a basic bargain brand of whey. Whole foods are important and necessary, but don't be too quick to discount the value of supplemented protein too. The bottom line is, get your protein in, however you have to get. - EME

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 4 | I typically have 6-9 scoops of whey every day. 2 in the morning with my breakfast meal, usually 1 with every meal during the day, 2 post workout, and 1 with my before bed milk + cottage cheese + whey + EFA shake. |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 182 | I only use Whey for workouts or when I run out Casein protein powder. Whey is fast digesting so I get hungrier faster. Casein protein keeps me fuller for longer. I use protein powders in about 2 meals and usually accompanied with solid food.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 94 | I have whey everyday, 2-3 times a day, regardless of whether I went to the gym that day. I still have a good diet of whole foods but have whey in between those meals as a quick meal. And like EME said it is cheaper than tuna, I get a 5 lb container with ~70 servings for around $25 which is about $0.35 a serving, compared to 6 oz tuna which averages around $0.50 here. And of course I always have it post workout. :eat: |
