Default Zercher squats

Have any of you ever done these? Are they painful? Do you need a squat rack to do them?

I do them fairly regularly. They are very demanding. You don't need a squat rack exactly......just something at about waist height to rest the weight on between sets. (A squat rack usually is the most logical choice, though).

They really drain your energy.....I can't use much weight when I do them. You feel them in your shoulders, arms, lower back and abs. They really seem to be a "functional strength" exercise.....considering that when you bend down to pick up a heavy box or something, you are going to hold it in front of you, rather than behind your neck (regular squats) or on top of your shoulders (front squats).

I also reccommend using the foam pad on the bar.....it makes it much easier on your arms.

I'll have to give them a try although my left knee is feeling like raw meat inside.

Ask me about them and I'll tell you I can't go down deep enough. I need to widen my stance and I don't like it.

Friday I'll throw them in though, the "functional strength" aspect of them is awesome.

Yea I have to use a really wide stance when I do them, otherwise my elbows bump into my knees at the bottom. I kind of like the feeling though.....but I try to stretch out my inner thighs a bit before doing them.

You know I still cringe when reading "stretch out my inner" in the same sentance. That thread was major funny until some dipshit closed.

Yea I can understand that.....I have the same problem with front squats. No matter how hard I try, the damn things are just never comfortable for me. Zerchers worked out better for me, so I do them instead.
