Talking Tried reverse bench press today.

Ok so today my coach was trying reverse bench press for triceps and wanted me to do try it with him.He did 135 for 15 reps easy as so did I.next we did 185 for 12 reps.And last we did 225 for 5 reps.Now this was the first time we've ever tried this so it wasnt something we're gonna go ultra heavy on.Now on the last set he did 6 but struggled,and I managed to get it for 4 reps on my own.I think im gonna start doing these to help my triceps out.I'm looking forward to doing this inmy next tricep workout.Does anybody else do these?Do they work for you?

I reverse closed grip bench press on a smyth rack. Really really hits the tris, and takes the strain off the wrists.

jmo, but I think it's a great way to potentially hurt yourself or screw up your wrists. There's a ton of otherr exercises for triceps, but to each his own. just be careful with them and make sure you always have a spotter.

I have a lot of friends that love them, in my opinion they hurt the wrists way too much and there are other exercises out there... just be careful!

Hey Strongman;

I also do this exercise, not as heavy as you guys but, I feel that by using the RGBP together with a CGBP, it also works the pecs in addition to the triceps.

Peace

It is definitely good for the pecs, you can definitely feel it, but Like I said, once your wrists start hurting you will need to go a different way... or you can get some wraps of some kind.

It is important to experiment with wrist position... my wrists hurt from close grip, but not reverse bench.. (i should sai not anymore) after I adjusted my grip, it has been smooth sailing... IMO it is the best tricep builder out there....

My wrists dont bother me at all other than the first time I tried it.Other than that I don't have any problems.The day after doing these along with other tricep exercises,I am really sore.

Like I said experiment with your grip until they don't hurt...

you can also do incline, or decline to find a more comfortable position...

Are you supposed to wrap your thumbs around the bar or keep them next to your fingers? The one time I tried RGBP it really bothered my wrists and I think it's because of having my thumbs around the bar.

I fail to see what the difference is. It doesn't affect triceps recruitment, so why do people think it's "special"?

I do them and i feel a big difference in my triceps. It has to hit them hard if they're a DC approved exercise.

Lol, there's no such thing as a "DC approved" exercise since Dante didn't write it. Intensemuscle.com just had a post about that some time ago. However, any compound movement is of course preferred running any program under the sun. I love reverse grip not only because it smokes my triceps, but also because you receive a lot of chest recruitment making it more bang for your buck. Reverse grip actually doesn't hurt my wrists at all like CGB does. Anything over 250 and it feels like my wrists are going to break off at the joint.

Ah, I found it:

I tried doing RG in place of my doing dips for a few workouts a while ago, but found dips to be a lot more effective if you are looking to hit only the triceps.
