Default Squat injury - maybe

Question regarding squats....

after doing squats I am unable to do them again for about a week (7 days) due to either soreness or maybe an injury (I am not sure which). I cant believe that I hurt myself since I squat less than a high-school cheerleader, but it sure seems abnormal that my quads hurt to the point that I cannot do squats with any considerable weight for another 7 days (I do 2-day split and cardio third day...then start over...So squats would be every third day). I can do leg extensions though without major problem.

I have read the sticky's on form, etc...it doesnt seem like I could be screwing that up. If it helps....it appears on exrx that the muscle with the pain is the Vastus Lateralis (upper outside of the quad).

Any thoughts that could help.

No...I can get out of a chair and use the stairs, run, etc. That is why this one seems wierd...normally soreness does does not keep me from being able to lift. Not sure what pulling pains are. I can squat down 50% before I get concerned that I wont be able to push it back up. I suppose it would be sharp pain. I am probably just a pu**y...

Sounds like really bad DOMS to me. It's a pretty tough muscle to tear or injure but anything is possible. Try warming up a little more by riding a stationary bike for 5 mins then do some overall leg stretches before hitting the squats and ride the bike every couple days between squat sessions and it should help you recover quicker. If it feels recovered after 7 days it's not an injury, if it never seems to recover and doesn't loosen up during lifting then see a doctor.

Welcome to bodybuilding. This is where people give up. Not sounding rude or arrogant, but chances are you're having a little trouble adapting to squatting. Up your calories, don't do any leg work in between leg workouts, and suck it up and squat. You do so - you'll stop feeling pain and get bigger. You stop squatting - you'll be a pansy for the rest of your life. Choice is yours.

thanks for the input....I tried again yesterday....still hurts like hell, but was able to work thru it...to a point. So there may be something to the "not adapted to squats yet"...we'll see. Right now (this morning) it does not hurt....but the pain shows up two days later. Thanks again...

Honestly squats, and deadlifts should only be preformed once a week anyway. but the pain you are describing doesn't sound normal..

You should experiment with different foot positions etc to see if it lessens the pain. The most important thing to do is make sure your knees are not going further forward than your toes. (a little further is ok 1 or 2 inches but that is it) have someone watch you to get an idea how much further forward your knees go than your toes...

a couple other big mistakes people make is relaxing their knees at the bottom of the movement, or straightening the knees out all the way and locking them out at the top. to do them correctly you need to keep your knees tight the whole time, and do not lock out at the top.. stop about an inch short of lockout.

try these things and see if it makes a difference.
