technique is everthing. BB bench press is a great chest builder when done properly. there are two ways to do it. the powerlifter style which hits the delts, and triceps more than chest. A lot of people end up doing it this way because they want to add weight as fast as possible.

For chest building the proper way to do it is you need to take the shoulders, and triceps out of the movement as much as possible. To do this

1. your arms should be straight out to the sides (if you were standing up, you would look like the letter T)

2. you should position your hands on the bar, so that at the bottom of the movement your arms form an L (bent at a 90 degree angle)

3. Squeeze your shoulder blades together, and push your chest out

4. Do not lock out. stop right when you feel your triceps taking over.

5. really focus on using your chest to move the weight.

You will not be able to use nearly as much weight this way, but your chest will grow much better this way. and that is the purpose of bench press. It is a little tough on the ego at first, but well woth it in the long run..
