Default Most Effective Incline

Incline DB bench (or barbell), which setting is best?

I usually warmup using 4 (on the bench), i think that translates into about 45 degreese. Then for heaviest set I work on 3 (feels better). I'm going to start using 3 Exclusively and 4 when I start working barbells.

What is everyone elses prefrence? -- in terms of angle?

Incline smythe press and incline machine press right now. When i stop gaining on them I will use DBs and another type of machine.

Dumbells are superior to both barbell and machine IMO. Personally, I find 45 degrees to be too much of an incline and I usually stick to what I'm guessing is about 30 degrees. Anything more than that brings the shoulders into play too much for me.

Since the movement is almost a cross between a flat bench press and an overhead press.
A 30-degree angle is all that is needed. If the angle is more than 30 degrees, the deltoids begin to move the weight to me at least.

My preference is to vary the incline from set to set. This allows variation and more muscle fiber sitimulation. Hey that rhymed! lol

I agree. I think dbs are superior, and 30 degrees seems to put more stress on my upper chest. But i like change that from workout to workout or event from set to set, using different angle ranges.

I also like the 30 degree angel better, and dumbells exclusively. I get more of a stretch at the bottom and more of a contraction at the top.

I'm with AL and most of the guys, more then 30 and it becomes more of a delt workout. I used to use BB exclusively but since switching over the db's for these my chest has developed more.
