Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 10 | This is a big one for me, i always find when im squatting heavy i reach a point where my mind tells me to stop and oh its to hard, or ive done enough, i find if i push through that barrier i can pump out 3 or 4 more reps.. How do you guys and girls get your mind ready before a heavy set, or when your 4 reps or so into the squats.. :nosthumbs

Recipes: 2 Rep Power: 96 | I never think about what I need to do next, I just do it. And if I can't do it, well I'll try again, if I failure a second time take pounds off and rep it. |

| IMPC Contestant | Well, I don't do any heavy poundages at the moment, but for stuff like squats and deads that are real heavy like that, I always say stuff like "You want that size, you want that mass? Bust your balls this set for it" and "You're a pussy" always helps too :P

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 9 | I don't believee in mind over matter at all, but I do believe in "mind over mind". I think we often pysche ourselves out of certain weights (like breaking the 200, 300, 400 barriers, for example, or 225, 315, 405), and we can lead our brains to let us down. I'm sure that we HEAVILY impact our ability to lift when we know we're going for a PR. But if you literally can't lift the weight, you're not going to hype yourself into it. I think all the rah rah rah "yeah BUDDY!!!!" stuff before sets is great, and I do it when I'm going heavy, but it's not so I can surpass my physical limitations; it's just to help me max out my physical ability. |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 58 | I warmup for a few sets of light weight, then I do an acclimation set of 80-90% of my working set. By then, I have a good idea of what I am going to be able to do for 4 or 6 reps on my working sets. I try to keep everything else out of my mind except what I am doing and counting reps while I am actually squatting. If I break form for whatever reason, I rack it. (I don't do this often.) *

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 33 | i think everything in lifting is a mental thing. i honestly beleive that vizualizing yourself accomplishing the lift before hand will actually lead to a better result.
