Unhappy Lower back Injury

Hi, about a 6 weeks ago, I was doing heavy squats, and in my 4th rep when I got up I felt something in my lower back. I had to stop. The pain stopped, but it bothered me every time I ran.

Im not sure I caused my injury while squatting. I just found out that ive been deadlifting with bad form... I was starting the lift almost with my knees locked, and i read that puts too much pressure on the lower back. Ever since, after the first set of DLs, something always bothered me around the hip, especially right above my left glute, and around my left hip flexor. Then a felt pain down near my left calf. It felt better if did heavy leg extensions raising my butt off the seat. I think that because it stretched it.

I stopped squats at all, and i started working on deadlifts with very small weights. I used to have a big bump above my left glute, and I hurts when I do crunches, and when I raise the DBs up to my chest before doing Incline DB presses.

Now it doesnt hurt that much, the bump got smaller, but what should i do? Does anyone know what it is, or what i should avoid doing?

I would suggest going to a doctor and finding out about that lump.

you probably should have had it checked out whenever it really started hurting, you could have exascerbated the injury by continuing to train.

In all seriousness, go to to a doctor. LB injuries nag and nag and nag.

they all tell you to go to a doc...

i had a lower back injury, trained through it (stayed away from heavy work on it), but kept blood in it by training it light. It went away in about 3 months completely.

I have to agree with djstarer. I did almost the exact same thing to my lower back. I went to a doctor and the first thing she said to me was that she wanted to do surgery. She wanted to remove one of my discs and fuse the spine. She said I would lose some mobility and lose some feeling in my legs. I just kind of stared at her. She asked if I understood her because most of her patients would be pretty upset with this news. I just said, no way am I going for the surgery, I'll tough it out. I started doing lower back exercises to first loosen and then strengthen the area. Then I started doing stretching exercises to make the muscles better able to handle movements. I never did get the surgery and while my back does give me a twinge once in a while I am able to function relatively pain free most of the time.

I would rather see a chiropractor rather than a regular doctor. They seem to understand the mechanics of the back better. Like I said, the doctor I went to see immediately jumped to the conclusion she had to perform surgery without trying any other therapeutic approaches.

If you had had surgery, how long would you had lost some mobility in your legs for? Why didnt you wanna do it?
