Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 0 | Yeah I see what you guys are talkiing about, the videos are good. My long-ass spider legs aren't really built for folding up. In a way deads are more natural for me but I wanna squat! I appreciate all your advice, will take it into consideration and see what happens... JH |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 115 | glad you feel that way. although pulling is essential, squating really is a better leg exercise, hands down.

it is a balancing act.. It takes a while to get your ballance right when you are squatting, but no matter how long your legs are you can do them with proper form... Like DJ said Deads, are great, and should be done as well as squats, not as a replacment.. try to post another video once you correct your form... basicly all you need to do is stick your ass out further, and transfrer weight onto your heels.. lower the weight while you are working on your form.. I had a video beforet hat demonstrated it perfectly, but I can't find it...

I wouldn't recommend continuing to squat in your bare feet.

Pause the video when he is at the bottom of the squat, and tell me if you still think his knees weren't going past his toes.. Pay attention to his feet, most of his weight is on the balls of his feet, and not the heels.. His form is good aside from that..

Pushing up on a squat from the balls or our feet happens to everyone during a long lifting career. I know I've lost balance before and had to push up from a less than flat footed position before. It happens to me on DL too sometimes.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 0 | i think i understand what you guys are saying about getting the weight back on the balls of the feet. i've been practicing without weight so friday or sat i'll be doing squats again & will post another vid to see if i do any better. i do suspect that i might have subtle probs with form that keep me from generating maximum power out of the bottom. ah powerman2000 i love working out bare feet why do you suggest against it? no arch support + heavy weight maybe? all the vids posted help a lot but i gotta say bubba g the one you posted of the girl squatting is ah... interesting. "so how was it? hard, very hard". indeed. the lifting seminar i think romanaz posted was good too i learned a some things from that. jh |

| FDU Devils Weightlifter | doesn't bigD squat barefoot? or he uses wrestling shoes. I'm getting a pair of chucks soon to use. keep your weight on your heels and all should be fine. besides that your form is good.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 115 | yeah. archless shoes. PLers make up 56% of all Chuck Converse sales worldwide. I think the only reason against barefoot is it's dangerous for your toes (dropped weights)

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 0 | I was looking through my training log and noticed something kinda interesting. I started squatting at 60 pounds for about 10 reps. Man I was a stick, still am basically. Anyway every week I added 10 lbs until I got to 130 lbs, at which point I couldn't lift 130, so at that session I dropped to 120, couldn't lift that either, so dropped to 110. Then I did 110 lbs for two weeks. Then went to 120 and after that added 10 lbs a week until I got to 140 lbs. Then was stuck at 140 for several weeks. Then went to 150 for a few weeks, then 160 and so on. So it seems that I hit a flat spot or plateau every 20 lbs or so. Sometimes when I hit a flat spot I have to drop 10 lbs for a week or two, sometimes I'm stuck at the same weight for one to four weeks. Is that what these are, little plateaus? Is that normal? I'd appreciate anyone's perspective on this! Jimmy |

| FDU Devils Weightlifter | everyone gains differently, some people gain slowly, others in burst. I know I for one gain/lose in spurts. ex: my deadlift just jumped 70+lbs in 3-4 weeks. Thats just how I am. Could be a trend.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 51 | 20 rep squat is fine, continue with that. this is the problem with forums tend of over-analize a bit. hes so new to lifting he just need to keep doing squats. you will get better. high rep ranges have a bad rap on this site LOL. work on the form of coarse. you probably are trying to lift too much too soon?

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 0 | I posted another vid of me squatting, dropped the weight way down to work on form a bit & still doing 20 reps. I will eventually try fewer reps as some of you suggested, but I don't want to give up on 20-reps until I feel I've made some headway. Critiques would be appreciated! Jimmy |
