*topic* Just wanted to hear ppls opinions on improving the deadlift. I have my own thoughts but would like to hear from you.

true! good tip.
I was looking for routines aswell. I can pull 600 for a few but I have been stuck there for a while now. I found 3-4 sets of 8-12 of 405 with short rest periods (60 secs. to 1-1/2 mins) 1 x a week works nicely. Basically pick a w8t you feel comfortable doing for 12. Then have a week of 3-4 sets with reps in the 3-6 range. very light w8t moving right up.


Anyone else?

Lots of assistance exercises. Good mornings, Pull-throughs, etc. Figure out what's the weakest link in your posterior chain and bring it up.

Learning proper breathing and oblique contraction seem to be huge as well.


i do sets of 4-6 with full step-back 8 second pauses.

I've found my pulling is largly dependent on my grip strength as well.

One philosophy I've heard is to not deadlift so much. Do other back exercises and save your heavy deads for every other week.

Another is to just look up and make sure the lift is a smooth and fluid motion with a synergy of legs and back.

True - thats what ive been doing. I think im going to try this doing full deads once a month and the rest of the time concentrate on deep, heavy squats, good mornings, reverse hypers, partial deads, rows, glute-ham raises and romanian deads.
