Lightbulb Help Jiza build a good home gym !!

Hey guys and girls
Ive decided im going to get a home gym done in the garage, simply because working out at uni doesn't work for me, i come out sweaty, and when im doing it inbetween classes is just doesn't work, i get to tired etc... So, i need some advice as to what stuff i should get considering im NOT going to have a spotter, so im guessing i will need a power rack, correct ?? I want to be doing mainly free weights, and not many machines, any advice is welcome or questions, btw how much will this set me back

- Power rack with a high and low pulley
- Dumbbells
- Adjustable Bench

That would be your basics, then you could add in any other stuff you like to use e.g. leg press, cable crossover...whatever

No doubt on the power rack with High low pulleys...

Get an adjustable bench with the leg extension, and leg curl attachment, preacher curl station all in one....

barbell, EZ-curl bar, adjustable dumbbells, and weights...

That should be enough to get you started... You can add everything else over time.. Like maybe a bike, or a treadmill...

Peaked_18 posted his home gym setup in the powerlifting section and it is cheap and effective
But I think the basics are:
(a) Bands/Chains
(b) Trap Bar
(c) Olympic Weight Set/Barbell
(d) Adjustbale Bench
(e) Power Rack w/chinup bar
(f) Glute Ham Raise Machine
(g) Medicine Ball

I'll list my stuff, and see if it doesn't help you much:
Bench (obvioulsy)
Couple of ajustable dumbell handels
Barbells some with screw on ends and a few with clips...
Weights
Heavy Bag
Ab swing (present)

I use some of my mom's stuff sometimes:
Total Gym
Exercise bike

I'm going to build a little squat station sometime soon (screw two pieces of wood to my stairs in the basement, then screw a little piece of wood on that, and cut a notch in it a little bit lower than my shoulder to set the barbell on...Yes,I know cobb job lmao)

Bingo. Depending on your income, I have no clue what you are willing to purchase. Want some equipment that will last you a long time that you can put to good use. Most the time, you really need a base to be able to work around with your training program. So, obviously a few things will be a must, but a glute-ham raise machine isn't always neccersary if you don't plan to use it.

- Power Rack
- Barbells / Dumbbells
- Kettlebells
- Band Pack (#1-#6 would be good to replace for cable system, saves you the dough)
- Platform (or some matting material)
- Adjustable bench
- Weights
- Trap Bar

Those are what I am recommending for you, the bands will replace all the cable systems, and the bands are very tough and hard to push around. Go to www.elitefts.com and look for the stuff and what not. I would also recommend a dragging sled if you got some money for it Jiza.

Good luck!

dude...i work out at home and have to use the basics, but have come pretty far with what i have...

weight bench w/ leg extention thing
barbell w/ weights
cambered bar
adjustable dumbbell set
straps
block to use for calf raises

i use the weight bench for my rack when I do squats...use 5 gallon stucco buckets to set my barbell on when i do rack pulls...just get the basics and get started and you can always add in extra stuff as you go! Good luck to you!! I love working out at home...it rules!

I work out at home too. All I have is:

Bench
Barbell
EZ curl bar
Adjustable dumbbells
Decline sit up board

If I had the ca$h I would like a power rack with squat cage.
