Default Grip training

Anyone know of a really fast and effective routine for vastly increasing grip strength? I don't want to have to resort to straps but on my deadlift's my grip is failing way before my back does. Any suggestions are welcome.

I just use chalk in those situations. People get over the mess eventually.

Can you elaborate bigD? What kind of set, rep structure, number of days you perform it, timing, and most importantly what is thickbar work..lol.? Thanks also to Peaked, IHE, and Romanz for the good suggestions.

Here is my suggestion bro.. resort to straps...lol.. unless you plan on doing powerlifting competitions there is no reason not to....

Even Ronnie Coleman uses them.. along with just about every other pro bodybuilder...

But if you really don't want to use them. Do some static holds with heavy dumbbells, or barbell...

lol..well I could your right, but I think a strong grip really helps all your lifts not just the ones you can use strap's for. I certainly don't think a stronger grip would hurt anyway. Statics are something I considered, I'm just not sure how often grip needs to be worked. Every day, 3 times a week....etc..?

I even see pros using straps for side laterals...lol

once or twice a week is good.... since you are looking to build strength.

I have seen this debate many times.. and my advice to people who didn't want to use hooks, or straps... do your deadlifts, or whatever lifts your grip fails on till it actually fails, then crack out your straps... train your grip while you do this on seperate days..... you will need the straps less, and less over time, and meanwhile you will be getting the most out of all of your other lifts....

Straps don't halt your grip strength progression, they just slow it. In January I was maxing out at 335 from the floor, now I can pull 405 raw. My rack pulls were at 365, now I'm pulling 455. Even though I've used straps my grip strength has increased.

Yep I agree with bubba on this one.

I don't see a problem with using straps for the heaviest sets on certain exercises. When doing my heaviest sets of Yates rows I'll use them otherwise my grip fails. I didn't use them on rack pulls though, since I used an alternating grip. It just depends on the exercise.
