Default Full Squats

I was doing full squats and a guy that said he was a personal trainer told me that I could snap my spine doing that.

I was just wondering if this was true because I saw it on the excercise list in the stickies.

Or perhaps you have to get good form down so you don't hurt yourself bad?

Thanks.

Was he reffering to your form, or the exercise?

Full squats will not snap your spine if done correctly. Infact they will strengthen your core, and prevent injuries to your spine by adding support.

You must keep your back slightly arched, and your abs tight. Do not let your back round forward in any movement. If you are unable to keep your back from rounding, then you are using too much weight.

He said, as close as I can remember, "you only have to barely break the plane of 90 degrees to work all the muscles. Any lower and you can snap your spine."

and thats why most guys can't develop good legs, a full squat will develop all the muscles of the quads better then any other squat.

That's what I thought.

I think I'm going to stick to a low weight so I can get good form first.

Again thanks everyone.

I haven't done squats in more than a year and last Saturday I did 5x10 with only 135lbs, and I was sore as hell.

Simply Amazing.

true that man. New exercises are death. Even if done really light. I was just learning how do to a proper olympic clean the other night... and my hamstrings killed just using the bar. Squating is probably 10X that.
