It depends on the person. Some people have difficulty doing standard squat because of the stress on the back and/or knees.

How i do front squats is i get on a smith machine and put the bar on my back just like i would a normal squat and walk out to where your legs are in front of you and do it like that. Makes all the difference in the world.

Yeh... i dont know the technical name for those... but I just know them as sitting or leaning squats. Squating in the Smith generally eleviates stress on the knees and back anway.

If you're after pure strength, then no, front squats arent "necessary." They're good for variation though. Front squats have really helped my leg sweep, and have added size to my quads.

not necessary, but if you wanna try something of that nature, you can try zercher squats

kinda like a front squat, but I don't believe it would hurt you collarbone. maybe just your arms, haha

It really depends on the reason you are lifting. As an Olympic weightlifter myself, I do them on a constant basis. They are very uncomfortable for most, and take some time to get used to, but at the same time they are great for hypertrophic gains to the thighs.

I used to love doing front squats because they were my favorite exercise for quads. But recently, my wrists hurt the crap out of me so I stopped doing them. But I think there a good exercise to add on, Doesn't make a difference if you do them or not.

A buddy of mine just grabbed a front squat yolk and it makes front squats pain free. I will see if I can grab the link.
