Default exercises you do and dont do list them

i had surgery on the tendon in my calf in sept 05 and then again in march 06. obviously during this time i could only work the upper body(bench, one arm rows, curls, pull ups, shoulder press, etc) but before the surgeries i was squating, deadlifting, barbell rowing, and doing the clean and press. i am going to start squating and deadlifting again as soon as my doc says it's alright and last week i started doing barbells rows again. i got 185lbs up on the rows and afterwards had a slight pain in my lower back so right now i am trying to decide if i still want to keep them in my routine or am wondering if my back is just weak from not deadlifting all of this time. so the question is are there exercises you do not do?

Hard to say man with any sort of reliability. I know a weakened core can really make your other lifts screwy.

My stiff leg deadlift form is pretty bad because my hammies are soooo unflexable. I stretch them after nearly every workout but it's gonna take a long time before I can say... touch my toes.

I try do them all though, I just make compromised in sometimes with stuff like that.

Back is weak. That's all. Give it a few weeks and you'll feel better about it. If you really want to do it, do dumbell rows - but I feel like a nancy when I do, because I handle less weight and it doesn't do half the shit for the entire upper body that barbell rows do.

185 is heavy for taking a long period off. I know ur lats can handle it, but you havn't put strain on ur back in a while. Start off much lighter and make sure you keep good form. A belt may be usefull in the beginning. Also, hypers might be a good way to start things off again.

so do you think both lats and lower back are weak? i did 6 reps(all i could do) for 9 sets with the weight and thought i was keeping my back straight and head up

because of the 2 surgeries i have an implant in both ankles and i asked the doc if it was ok to squat/deadlift he said he never knew of anyone with implants to squat/deadlift but said it would probably be ok as long as i started light and see if i could handle it but i really dont want to ***** up the surgeries and have more problems down the road

this is pissing me off as i loved both of them and if you cant squat/deadlift what the hell can you do?

I would recommend using a mobility routine, with band work, and bodyweight exercises.

the doc told me i could try squating again but he does not even know if it would have any negative effects so i cannot figure out why he would tell me to go ahead and do it if he didnt know
