Are you dropping to the floor too fast? I go down as fast as I go up. Not very fast when I am lifting my max. *

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 51 | ditto.. I have scars on shins from years of deadlifting.... but I don't ever think I have hit my knees in 20 years of doing them! But, you generally scrape your shins on the way up... not on the way down... so I'm not sure what you have going on there Skel. - EME

![]() Ummm.... Not only was I born with scoliosus, but I'm also double jointed in a few places, including my knees. I think my knee caps actually stick out further than most peoples. When I was learning to dead lift the trainer told me that you want to keep the bar close to your legs (which, duh you have to, that shizzy is heavy lol) and my knee cap (specifically my right) is always getting in the way.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 51 | LOL... funny pic. Well, you are correct about needing to keep the weight close to your legs. That's why you often actually scrape your shins on the way up. I don't recall ever having much problem on the way down... like Pammiejoe said... just think of the bruises as battle scars bro... Bruises go away.. the gigantic back you're going to build from deadlifting will be with you always! :bigthumbu - EME

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 5 | I would recommend working on your flexibility in the calf/tibialis area whcih should enable you to keep your lower leg slightly farther back so you aren't scraping as much. Much easier said than done as I sit here with raspberrys all up and down my lower legs and knee caps. However, I ha so much adrenaline going when I was deadlifting that I could care less. |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 42 | At first when I did deadlifts, they would always scrape my knees. Now i've corrected it, and the bar never scrapes my legs.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 60 | If you are hitting your knees on the way up you are not using your legs properly at the bottom of the lift. Lift with legs first and then extend with back. If you have a mirror near the power rack in your gym, check out your form on your warm-up sets. |
