Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 41 | Just hit 235 x 6 on squats yesterday, as some may know from my IMPC journal. It was hard as hell but I somehow managed to get 6 reps for all three sets. Just wondering if my form is good and if there is anything I could improve on? 235lb Squats

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 32 | It's kynda hard to tell because I was catching it from directly behind you.. instead of an angle.. lyke 45 degrees behind you.. At some of the sticking points, it looked lyke you were.. turning it into a Mini-Goodmorning... I guess that's the best way to put it... Lyke you were using your lower back to raise the weight before you drove your heels thru the floor to lyft with your legs... I can't be 100% because of the camera angle.. but be sure to try & keep ya trunk as upryght as possible... ... keeping your head up helps... Meanwhyle.. good reps & a solid workout... Way to go Rocky.. *D Peace..~G

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 41 | Thanks for the tips guys. Next workout I will probably stay at 235 and try not to push with my lower back as much. I'll also take it at a different angle most likely.

I’ve posted these remarks sometime back but on a different site, everyone has a different opinion on ATG’s and parallel squats. I do them both and maybe you can use some of this to your benefit. Squats and deadlifts are two of my favorite compound exercises. I incorporate squats in my leg routine once a week. I’m 67 and not trying to break any (ego) records but, just trying to stay in shape as best I can. When I do my squats I make sure that I do three warm up sets first (w/ a leg press station I have), then I lift the weight off the rack and back up a step or two making sure that I have the bar exactly where I want it, (normally just below the traps) then with a shoulder wide stance, (some use a wider stance) feet pointed a little outward, chin and eyes straight ahead ( I don't look down, by keeping my chin & eyes up it helps me keep my back straight). I'll begin the squat by INHALING first, then as I proceed down I EXHALE slowly (like a leak in a high pressure pipe). At the bottom of the squat I make sure I do not bounce & make sure my feet are flat and try not to extend my knees beyond my toes, ( sometimes hard to do) as I come back up (pushing off my heels) I'm still EXHALING. It's when I'm at the top of the completed squat that I stop exhaling. Then I either rack the bar or go for more reps. That's the way I do the ATG squat but, that's what feels comfortable for me. I normally I do 5X5’s. ATG’s up to 200 lbs. Anything over 200 lbs., I go just below parallel (presently, I’m at 270 lbs.). Although, to be honest, at times I may tend to lose strict form even after 3+ reps and since I train alone, if I lose that form that's when I'm afraid I'll just hurt myself. So to combat this I do 5X2's sometimes twice, simply because it allows me to concentrate more on form and recovery. I still get in 10-20 reps. So far, I've yet to have any problems with my knees. Some people hold their breath throughout the squat (they say it helps support the spine during the squat) but, personally I feel that holding my breath throughout the squat is too much strain on my system. But again, that's me. Peace ![]() | |
