Like many others, skullcrushers, french curls, etc. murder my wrists and elbows. Never really felt like dips did much for me except put too much stress on my shoulders.

I have the same issue with dips the benefit is exceeded by the lack or gains and stress on other areas. For me it is my left wrist and shoulders maybe its the fact I have to tow my 240 pound ass along for the ride..

I get problems with my left wrist, which causes me to take it easy on dips. A year ago I would load myself down with weight. Now I do bench dips which don't hurt my wrists, and I have my girlfriend apply pressure to my shoulders which keeps stress on the triceps.

bro just so ya know girlfriends work best when applying pressure to a different region. :eek2:

I figure do to how I have issues with them I can't always give it 100% so why do them? I am better off doing different types of things.

Yeah I agree - I can do dips all day long at bodyweight, but when I start adding weight (ie: 100+lbs) it starts to kill my shoulders and wrists. Behind-the-back pushdowns give the same type of movement and rom that dips do, but without killing your shoulders or wrist.

Ya I need weight as well and it is simply not effective enough for the amount of torture ...whereas other things are.

To those that find them effective don't stop simply because others do not find them worth while.

I don't plan on it. Honestly, I just wanted to hear some other exercises that are effective. I don't mind changing out the CGBP and extensions from time to time, but I'm leaving dips in my routine.

lying tri ext's using an ezbar
seated db ext's
cable machines are to weak for pressdowns so I use the lat pull down station

My wrist will randomly hurt sometimes, it occasionally gives me problems on the bench and almost always with barbell curling and dips.
