| Soldier In Progress | I see a lot of strongman have an arched back when deadlifting, I tend to arch a little ... for hypertrophy reasons it's better to have straight back, but what are some of the physiological problems that can come from no belt + arched back?

If you keep your back staright, and brace, the only work the extensors will do is isometrically, if you are good enough to be able to do so. The back extensors return you to straight from the bent position, and slightly into extension, so an arched back in the thoracic region may involve more muscle activity, but also extreme loads on the soft tissue. Belts are a no-no: learn how to work and strengthen your core! | |
