womens concerns about weight training

Many women are convinced that if we lift "like a guy", we will suddenly bulk up and start looking like the incredible HULK......

I try to get the word out that lifting heavy will not make you bulky as a woman, but no one seems to hear me! They are all mostly willing to tell me i am back asswards and that i do not know what i am talking about!!

Think about it, ladies. Some of the GUYS on this site have been lifting for YEARS....and HEAVY....and they still don`t look like the HULK. Putting on that kind of muscle mass is really hard and requires a lot more testosterone than any woman is ever gonna have in her body (without "help").

That's great advice and I so totally agree. Nothing prettier than a woman who has been lifting some serious weights. But on a bodybuilding forum, this is preaching to the converted. Now if you were to form a commando with a few other lifting women and post that on all the "get thin" and "eat nothing" boards, then it actually could have some effect...

People never realize how much thought some people put into lifting. If they saw Supertraining, they'd be like...WTF! But, lifting like Pammie won't make you a Ronnie Coleman.

well i dunno if this is only a bodybuilding site grunt....i feel more like we are here to help ANYONE who pops in and not just assume they are all already into bodybuilding....thats why i posted this thread in here....seems like more women worry about getting huge by lifting heavy than you would think, even those that already lift weights at the gym!!

I totally agree Pammie.. we are here to help anyone.. and just because they come on this board does not mean they know about lifting weights.. or diet or anything else and to assume they do.. is doing a disservice to our members..

Having this kind of information up and ready when someone does come on line.. looking for advice.. always helps.. especially if they dont really like asking alot of questions.. the info is there.. all they need to do is read... and if they feel comfortable enough after reading a bit.. they will start asking questions.. and the help continues..

Whenever girls tell me they are scared to get bulky from lifting, I have a two step approach and it works every time.

First I give them the speech about testosterone and how they don't have the hormones NECESSARY to even get bulky.

If that doesn't work, I show them a picture of a Kendra Elias and they suddenly can not wait to hit the weight room. No joke :

Great topic Pammie, I agree entirely and I wish more women would realize it!
