Talking Weight loss versus Fat loss

So I'm a member of a community for people aiming to lose over 100 pounds. This week, a woman who is the same height as me posted an update. Since December, she's gone from 232 to 197.

Great for her! Seriously, I was the same weight in mid-December and now I'm... hovering in the 220s. I was experiencing some serious jealousy as I continued to read.

In additional news, she can now go a full 30 minutes on the elliptical.

Between January and mid-March, I trained for a half marathon. I didn't lose much weight, but I was walking upwards of 20 miles per week in 80-240 minute workout sessions. At a decent clip. On an incline.

Afterwards, I started back to lifting 3 times per week followed by 30 minutes of cardio (usually the bike) and doing 60 minutes of mixed cardio (including the elliptical) on my "break" days.

:evil5:

When I told my husband, he laughed and called me a "beast." Which just shows me that I've been hanging out here maybe too much recently, because I just blushed and smiled like that was the sweetest little thing to say!

PS. To clarify, I joined when I was more than 100 pounds overweight. I do not aim to weigh 125 at 5'5" - for me, that would be very slender.

It is a strange phenomenon when you end up liking to be called Beast....my SO calls me Herculeana, as a term of endearment and it makes me beam.

If it's any consulation, I lose weight reeeeaaaallly slowly. It's taken me about 2 years to lose 36 pounds and that is being really, really, really disciplined. I did have to switch up my diet and cut out dairy to lose the last 11 lbs. I used to get upset at my rate of loss, but eventually settled in and accepted it. There are reasons why its harder for me to lose, on top of age (did I say that aloud???).

You're doing great! I can't imagine it not working for you...

Dana

I dont lose weight very fast either.. if I take a fat loss supplement.. it will come off faster.. but when trying to get it off without supps.. it seems to be really stubborn.. but I just keep working hard.. and know that eventually I will get where I want to be...

The thing is, I actually do lose (and gain) very quickly. What has happened in the past is I lose quickly, realize I'm in danger of succeeding and freak out and gain some back. I know I'm thinner and stronger than I was last year, and I know that I am mentally and physically capable of success. The only thing preventing me from losing weight (and losing quickly) is me.

So I need to get out of my own way on this one.

My most successful transformation in the past came from focusing on a set of specific performance goals and ignoring some of the "side effects" like dramatic weight loss. I want to run a marathon next year, and I want to be part of my gym's "pull-up club" for women before my membership expires in November (may renew, may find another gym). Naturally I also want to lose fat, but I am not conflicted about the goal "do a full pull-up" the way I am about something like "wear a size 8/10."

I want to run again - eventually I want to run a marathon. For me, "eventually" is really October of 2007. I want to break the plateau I'm on right now (222-227), get down to under 200, and then back to 175, and then back to my Army weight range (150-165) and then I want to look better than I ever did before... I'm not sure what number that will be.

I want to switch from dumbell everything to at least being able to use barbells. I want to meet the presidential fitness standards - then exceed them. I want to do a full pull-up of my own body weight. Then 3. Then 10 (I'd be happy with 10). I want to be able to do a full push-up, then 10, then 50. I want to do 100 incline situps at a go, like I used to. I want to be able to de a cartwheel. Next time we move, I want one end of the couch.

Yeah, I want to wear all my size 16s instead of 20s. And when those fit, I'll want to wear my 12s. And when those fit, I don't know what I'll want.

I have *so much* that I want! I'm working on the small things - eating and exercise log, working out 6 times a week... and still managing school and housework and finances.

Thank you for the encouragement. I'm just a little nuts right now.

Atleast, your motivated enough to loose yours! I'm like the most laziest person, ever. My exercise, would probally be a day shopping at the mall. Well, good luck on losing your weight. You'll be able to do it, if you have your mind set to it

Thanks Loverg1rl - I'm still chipping away at it, down to 218 this month as my average weight slowly goes down and my strength is getting better by leaps and bounds.
