Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 0 | I have minor arthritis in my left shoulder, I've had it since the ending part of 2004. It didnt come slowly, I woke up one morning and there was an extremely sharp pain in my left shoulder. I was doing heavy miltary's and dumbell presses at that time, so I thought that was the reason. So I just put linament on my shoulder and decided to gol lighter with more reps to flush the delts with blood and maybe repair whatever injury might be there. The workout at the gym that day was great and I followed through with my workout plan. The following morning the pain was there again, worst than the morning before, so I believed I had a rotor-cuff injury. I went to a physical therapist and had therapy done on my shouder for that, in the mean time I had to lay off shoulder movements. The therapy wasn't working so I went to see a doctor. He gave me a steroid shot in my shoulder and prescribed Naproxen. I also had an MRI done on that shoulder and the orthopedic that looked at my MRI results said my collar bone was slightly mis-aligned, and told me that he wanted to remove an inch of my collar bone. I asked him if there was an alternative to that he said only what the doctor suggested. So I went to see a chiropracter, and he said I have a slight arthritis in my shoulder because the tissues were swollen and that's what's causing the pain. In all the mis-aligned collar bone causes inflamation in the tissue which causes the arthritis. Now in 2007 the pain has gone down a great deal, only when I try to do shoulders does it hurt. So I avoid shoulders as much as possible. I apply linament and cold-compresses which help a great deal, but I still can't do shoulders. I have to tailor my routine to work around my shoulders while trying to hit as many muscles as possible, bis-tris and chest is done on a pec-deck. When I not exercising the pain is practically non-existant, but any type of shoulder pressing or bench pressing hurts, I can't do lat-rows but I can do lat-pulldowns. Should I have that piece of bone cut off, or is there a way to alleviate this problem with-out 'going under the knife'. ![]()

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 176 | I never heard of removing a piece of bone to relieve shoulder pain, but I am not a surgeon. I used to have pain in my shoulders all the time till I started doing rotator cuff exercises. I went from pain all the time to no pain ever in the delts... I do a bunch of light sets on chest or back days to warm up, and on shoulder days I go heavier, and more sets... not saying this will help you, but it is worth a try.... I guess the other thing that would help me determin weather or not having the piece of bone removed would be... 1 a second opinion from another doctor, 2 I would want to know what the odds were that the surgery would relieve the pain, and allow me to lift without limitations were... |

| IronMassoholic | My dad is having almost the exact same problems, but it wasn't diagnosed as ' too long of a clavicle '. He was considering having a shoulder operation. I reminded him of the small incision made on his finger two months ago to relieve pressure from a mucous cyst, whatever that is. That ended up a catastrophe. He develpoed a staph infection and a great deal of pain and couldn't work for almost 6 weeks. This is from a very small incision on his index finger. I asked him if he really wanted to risk a repeat of that nightmare by allowing them to cut his shoulder open. What happened if it developed the same problems, but this time, with a much greater invasion of the body. He decided not to get the operation and instead did as bubba did and worked the imbalanced shoulder muscles. His problem went away after a month of proper training and avoiding exercises that caused too much irratation to the injured shoulder. Always, always get a second or third opinion. If I had relied on a single doctor's opinion 35 years ago, I might have believed I was going to die from Chrone's disease, as he diagnosed me as having it and told me I would be lucky to live another 5 years. Guess what? I didn't have it. |
