| IronMass Vip | So are your panic attacks being induced by stimulants or depressants or is there a psychological basis for them? If it's the former, the simple answer would be to limit your intake of stimulants and depressants. It's a horrible cycle to get into, as your chemistry gets accustomed to artificial sleeping/waking cycles, and it screws with your hormone levels, and can cause major mood swings, irritability, poor health and energy levels, and depression. It's also hard on your liver to process all that junk out of your bloodstream. Stimulants can be hard on the heart and cause disruptions in the nervous system (it blocks certain synaptic functions) and depending on the stimulant taken, can cause blood sugar spikes, which are of course followed by crashes. Again, your body has adjusted to you manually controlling the amount of a substance in your body, and therefore has quit producing or controlling that substance itself. So, unless you want to continue fighting side effects with more drugs, you'll have to cut back on the source of the problem. For panic attacks stemming from anxiety disorder, exercise, regular sleeping and eating patterns, controlling diet, and increasing organization can all help with regulating stress hormones, therefore reducing anxiety.

| IronMass Vip | Panic attacks themselves can be dealt with in a number of ways. Depending on where you're most prone to having panic attacks, having a 'comfort box' works well with most mental patients. It's a box you fill with objects you find comfort in, which can distract you from the attack. Certain scents, pictures, favorite childhood toys, etc. are generally chosen. Having a 'panic buddy' tends to work well for me. If you can find someone close to you that understands panic disorder, call them up and ask them to either come over or talk you through it. Having someone to distract you can draw your focus away from the attack and prevent it from escalating out of control. It's also nice to know you're not alone when the 'oh my god I'm going to die' fear sets in. Breathing techniques, yoga, hypnotherapy, and traditional psychotherapy and counseling are great ways of learning to think your way through the attack. Hypnotherapy and psychotherapy will also focus on the base of your anxiety, hopefully resolving the dysfunctions at the root of your anxiety. When all else fails, there is Xanax and other such medications to tranquilize a panic attack, or meds such as Paxil to soothe generalized anxiety. I really, really don't recommend those until all other avenues have been exhausted, as the side effects really suck.
