Default Green Tea with Ginseng

It was on sale so I bought a few boxes. I normally drink plain hot green tea, especially at night when it's too late to be slamming down pots of coffee :coffe:

What do you guys think of the health benefits of drinking green tea and ginseng? I definitely think any benefits to them are amplified in tea form because of the bioavailability. I have my doubts about taking them in caplets.

I know from experience that a looooooooong time ago when I first started losing weight in 2004 I was drinking a lot of green tea not as a means of weight loss but trying to ween off of coffee. I saw a huge difference in the quality/texture of my nails, skin, and hair. Now I pump myself up with so many vitamins and supplements who knows what does what

What about health benefits (and costs) of ginseng? I think I remember reading that continued ginseng consumption can be bad for you.

First you need to read up on the three main kinds of ginseng.

Asian (panax) ginseng
American ginseng
Siberian ginseng (not a true ginseng)

Also, there is red ginseng, which Asian ginseng using some kind of extraction method (I think)

From old school perspective, Asian ginseng is considered very yang which means you only take it if you are often cold, weak or sick. American ginseng is considered more yin, which means you should take it if you are often overheated, feverish, or just too excited. Siberian ginseng is considered the middle usually.

IMO, if you were to take a ginseng before bed, I would take american, because it will be less likely to interfere with sleep.

You should take ginseng on and off, it can take 2 weeks to a month to notice the effects though.

That's all I have, (off the top of my head.)

I did not know that, nor does the tea box say what kind it is. Though I'd imagine it's asian....

Most likely asian. I would just reccomend not taking asian ginseng if you suffer from getting too hot or agitated/excited at bedtime. If you are usally calm and cool at bedtime, then I think you will be alright.

I have tried all ginseng species, and have felt nothing more than a little increase on my energy.
Green tea is crucial on my everyday diet. I feel that it keeps my body lean and that it helps to tight the skin to my muscles. I just love it! i take it up to 4 times daily with yerba mate and cherry steams wen i´m cutting. I think that it has to be taken everyday to work as a cutting agent.

I have heard of yerba mate, but cherry stems is new on me. Where do you get them, and what do they 'do'?

the fruit stalk from prunus avium(wild cherry) is highly diuretic. I buy it at herbal stores. It drains impurities from our body, cleans the skin and it gives me some extra definition to my muscles by draining retained water.
