| IMPC Contestant | Teen section seems quite dead, and I figure this would be a great topic. What's your motivation for lifting? Everyone post their motivation (why they started lifting and what keeps them going) and we can share and discuss. I started lifting and dieting to lose my fat. Although many people never called me "fat" I knew that I was, and I was ashamed. My whole life I had played sports, but had always remained plump. One day at a party I hooked up with this really hot chick. After we made out alot I left the party. Afterwards she wanted nothing to do with me. She and her friends didn't say much (she wasn't drunk) but I believe it was because of my looks. I took up the old "I'll show that bitch" attitude. I went crazy. I ate once a day, did cardio 1-2 times a day. Needless to say, I dropped alot of weights. I also dropped alot of muscle. I started lifting a little. Nothing serious, just going through the motions. Mostly light benchpress / dumbell curls (yes, I was at one point that kid). I lost around 25-30lbs and stumbled upon a bodybuilding site called www.leehayward.com. I quickly read almost all the articles he had written and was hooked. I was, of course, still losing weight. I began to lose it the healthy way. After another 10-15lbs I was down to 143. I was skinny and people noticed. I hovered around that weight for awhile and finally went up to 150. I've been recently trying to add some mass and I'm now up to 155. I, until recently, have been deathly afraid of adding any fat. Being a former fat kid does that to you. I currently have the "**** it" mind frame. I follow my diet but throw extra clean calories like mad ontop of it now (3500 calorie diet, taking in ~4500 a day). I have the body I used to seek. I have a decent sixpack (I could make it much better looking in an easy 4-5 weeks) when tensed and I get comments on my body. I still don't feel close to satisfied. I crave mass. I crave size. I don't care about your bicep curl or your bench. I see that guy in the mall with his lats flying out his back and the shirt that can barely wrap around his chest of solid muscle and I drool. I crave that, I hunger for that. What I would give for that. Bodybuilding started as the typical "I'll show you", moved into the "I want some self-esteem" and is now into the "I want to be big, real ****in' big" stage. How about you guys?

Recipes: 2 Rep Power: 96 | Good work Hybrid! My motivation was to be the strong one. I was always weak when I was younger, getting beat up...then I started lifting weights and more of an attitude. My first real fight was when I was 15 and I knocked the shit out of this one kid. Fight lasted only 2 minutes of pure no-rules kill at any cost type fight. But, back to my motivation...:p Curls for the girls! |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 9 | Well as a young child I was always around my 2 older brother and there friends. They were all much bigger than me obviously. So I was always picked on and such so I wanted to get bigger. I didn't start lifting seriously until I started doing it at school. It is an awesome thing. So many things are happening in this world, everything is constantly changing yet everytime I enter in the gym and touch the weights I am at a peace. 100 lbs is 100 lbs everyday. Its a peaceful get away for me. |

| IMPC Contestant | A get away. I like that... I guess I should add I like how it's just me, some mass, and gravity. My gains are determined upon how badly I want it, and nothing else. And not only do I enjoy beating my records, smashing old highs, I also get to see some nice results in the mirror...

| Mushroom Cloud Laying.... | My motivation comes frmo always being a skinny little kid all my life. IN junior high the girls didn't like me because i was too short and skinny, lifting gave me a way to escape that and the death of a best friend. I have a lot of built up anger and it helps me escape the pains of life. Also I want to be a big mutha he don't take stuff from anyone.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 113 | I was fat. I lost the weight. Was unbelievably weak. I still wasn't happy. I lifted. Gainted 30 lbs back in lean mass. Now I am happy. These days, I focuse far less on my figure and much more on power. Every day I go in trying to be stronger. Endorphans..... getting pumped... scaring the shit out of other guys, taking their girlfriends, and the sexual stamina..... dayam. As much as girls like biceps and chest.... 10X that for sickening forearms. Don't forget your multi

| Pro Stature | I started lifting because of football. But it quickly became something I love! Most of my friends see it as a burden while i on the other hand look forward to lifting. When i started gettin strong i started wanting to be the best.My friends say i'm crazy in the weight room. They say i'm always trying to be the strongest and lift more than everyone else. They say i get mad when someone lifts more than me.It's true i do!I am one of the strongest in my school, but what keeps me going is knowing there is someone stronger and faster than I am.Now I am also going use it to help me rid this fat on my body. |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 4 | Almost the same reason as u, Hybrid. I've never always been fat. A bit chubby, but people wouldn't call me chubby, they'd say i looked "fine". Then one day i was looking at myself in the mirror and actually saw how much extra fat i was carrying, and carried on from there. I started going boxing because it's something i've always wanted to try and was losing weight from that. then i went to the gym and started lifting, and i've been doing so for about a year. |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 46 | I started I guess because of wrestling. I had come off of losing 10 pounds unhealthily for wrestling. I got pissed off because I was losing all of my matches, and I wanted to do something about it. I found bb.com, and started reading away. Then I found this site, started reading away. I am now heavier and stronger than before, but that anger of losing matches and not getting attention from ladies (:p) is still getting to me. I love to change myself, and I have done a damn good job so far. ![]() MOP

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 5 | My motivation is breaking my schools squat record of 500lbs. I think its very possible and it would be cool to break it at a weight like 180. The guy who has it now was like 240 and was just a beast. -TBM

| Amateur | I love changing myself. Knowing that I produced these changes, is just a very very good feeling. Being stronger and more muscular than most guys is just a great thing in my mind.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 11 | It started out as just a way to loose weight and look like arnie... obv this didnt happen heh and i lost interest fairly quickly but then last november i started again, for the same reasons and its pogressed to a love of lifting. It's that final push at the end of a set, the last do or die rep - knowing with all certainty that you can do no more to push the weight up. That's what i love. In a way whether it goes up or not is unimportant to me, i just love the exhilaration of giving it my all. I get a huge sense of accomplishment from lifting. Of course its great to break PR's, but i think i love the blood sweat and tears more ![]() |
