Default Studying in School

Ok, i know this has nothing to directly relate to bodybuilding or the like, but sometimes we need to train our smartest muscle (??????? lol) and thats the brain.

I am in my last year of High School (thank god), and it will involve alot of studying, exams, assessments and the like.

so lets open this thread up to teens who are in high school, what study methods do you use? whats your study room like? how long you focus on your study for? any study tips? best ways to remember stuff?

now, this thread could help alot of people, so start posting away...

Hmmm your education system is quite different to ours (UK) But i guess studyings studying. My tips:

Work in a well light clean/tidy room
Work for short peroids 30mins or less before taking a break
Don't study the same topic all day, shake it up, 2 or 3 subjects a day
Pick a specific time of the day to study and stick to it, this way it becomes routine

In lectures: Take good notes and copy them up as soon as you have the chance... (you'll forget all the bright ideas otherwise).

Play the game: At the start of the semester you should know the range of topics you will be studying and also the number of questions you have to answer on your final paper. If theres 5 topics and you must complete 2 questions on a paper then pick two topics from 5 to concentrate on from the start of the semester

basically my study room is my bedroom

it has a computer, connected to the internet (as you can prob tell lol), a good fairly sized desk. also have a tv, my bed and a leather recliner seat for relaxing lol

My study methods vary from subject to subject... basically for pe, i just read what i did that day, because i am fairly alright at pe. for english, i don't do any study. maths, i tend to try some problems here and there. physics, i just try and do whatever i can lol

in a run, i tend to study/do hw/assessment for about 1/2hr, however i would like to raise that to a hr every session with a 45mins-1hr break for weights, and then 10-15mins break every hour for some fresh air and clear my mind.

ok, here are a my study tips...

don't try and tackle every task at once. set out a plan, some goals, make a plan of attack. i am 100% everyone would do this for their weights. so lets say, i want to gain 10lbs of muscle in 5 weeks (i dunno, this is a example) my plan would be train 3x a week, and eat eat eat. pretty simple plan. now a plan for a assessment. ok, my assessment is due in 2 weeks. i will work 1/2hr on it for three days, then up it to 1hr for a day, the back to 1/2hr for two days, then do bits here and there, and on with 3-4 days remaining, aim to finish it, then go over it. sounds easy, easier said than done

umm what else.... fresh air!! you mind needs fresh air, it helps clear your mind and make you focus on your task at hand. generally 10-15mins break every hour is good. go outside and have a shoot of hoops, or a quick jog. if your afraid of that cardio affecting your gains, just go away, sit in your lawn chair, and lay there looking up at the clouds for 10mins just bringing in that air

Here's my studying. I procrastinate.... usually end up not doing it.... Then I go to school and try to find kids who have taken the test from them and get the answers to the hard questions.

naughty lift, thats a bad lift:nutshot: lol

i have a english assessment due on the 10th of Feb and i'm really un-motivated to do it. can anyone help me here

[edit: not with the actual assessment, about the motivation part. the thing is, i am in summer holidays here in australia, so i have all day and yeah,i tend to do other stuff and forget about it. so any motivational help would be great ]

Hehe i am a bad lift
I was never very motivated in high school, until a friendly (and geeky) rivalry started up between members of one of my classes. You could bet a few dollars with a friend or something that might help?

Break up assignments into small, do-able tasks and tackle each one with intensity. It's a lot easier taking things one step at a time rather than stressing out about the big picture. "Inch by inch is a sinch, yard by yard is always hard"

The last thing you want near you when you're studying is a TV and a computer with the internet. The computer is alright if you want to research a subject for a paper or you have to type something up, but aside from those situations, it's best to stay away from it (or at least leave it OFF).

I like to put on some music at low volume in the background to keep my brain awake. As long as it's not too loud it helps me study (not something for everybody)

when i was in my junior year of highschool(2 years ago), i learned how to memorize long lists very quickly and easily using these techniques. So when i take a test i organize everything into a list,map, or whatever i feeel like orgainizing it into, and memorize it and use mnemonics to get from one idea to another. 4.0 GPA so far in my quest to become a pharmacist.

Probably the best piece of article you can find for free that can improve or enhance your memory capabilities.

I just graduated from High School last year. Here's a thing you should do definately do if you want your marks to go higher. Whenever you learn something new in class, after school, review it for 15 minutes to half an hour. The way I see it, you have about 7 hours after school to do whatever you wish on doing--plenty of time to review on the school's lessons, homework, training, etc, etc. Then after 5 days of reviewing, review (or study if you like that word better) on the weekend (and try to do it a bit longer than 15 or 30 minutes) on the 5 day's subject materials. This technique really works...the funny thing is that it's not my testimony. lol, this girl told me all about it...after I graduated. lucky me eh?
