i know that the rest is about 15 deep breaths for RP sets, but how long is the proper rest for straight sets?

I don't like to be short winded when it comes time for the next exercise.
You'll have a least one, two or maybe even three warmups to do once the weights start to climb.
Also a warmup is a warmup...not a working set so don't go crazy on it.

I'd suggest you go when you are ready!

should jump rope be considered cardio, or should it not be done on off days because of recovery?

Honestly I'd suggest just doing mild cardio on your in between workout days as you don't want to go crazy. You want to recover. The mild cardio will help you with recovery, keeping bf down, appetite, and general conditioning.

There's two schools of thought when you say jumping rope to me and it's the little girls rhyming while they do it and then there's the Balboa movies where the hero trains rope like a madman. If you do it start off with the rhyming version, lol.

You have to be able to gauge your recovery ability. If you take it too hard on your off days then you won't know if it's the weight training schedule or the cardio that's too much. Or if the diet's not proper.

Take it easy on the cardio. Try twenty to thirty minutes on a walk, treadmill or stationery bike. Two to three times a week.

Good luck
jim

Well, i was actually thinking more along the lines of Balboa with the jump rope. (I think the rhyming may be a little embarassing)...

Would it be best for me to start with no cardio, to gauge my recovery ability. If all goes very well, then i will begin to slowly add in the cardio.
