Default Torn Groin Muscle

Well I got it checked out the other day and it turns out I tore a groin muscle last thursday  . The good news is that it is not a hernia, which my doctor thought it might be, but the surgen said it wasnt. Anyways, its been a week since I did it and I think Im ready to brave the gym again. I wont be able to do back, chest, or legs for at least a month. Needless to say my delts, bis, and tris should be getting some work over the next month. Right now I cant even roll over in bed without waking in pain, and tucking my shirt in for work even hurts. Man this sux. I think Im going to have to start physical therapy soon too. Anybody got any ideas on things to either get better or keep myself is somewhat of good shape??

Good it's not a hernia. You can heal in a few weeks with some ice and some amino acids. Keep the protein up and try to stay off your feet.

Good luck with therapy.

Regular dumbbells can help you out and try and keep a good diet.

Sorry about your injury Sky9.. I hope you feel better soon... I tore mine when I was younger.. it took a very long time to heal.. just work your upper body and watch your diet.. like Peaked said.. and you should do fine..

you might consider trying a pair of spandex shorts to help support you...i hear the swimer/diver ones are really helpful in groin pain.

also check out this PDF file for a lot of helpful stretching techniques.

heres another interesting and relevant article on groin pain

hope you feel better dude!

I actually tried chest yesterday and was ok with light weights and my feet up on the end of the bench. Im going to try upper back today, but I cant do much tensing of my abdomen, so many bent over type of exercises are out of the question.

Ya that's what I figured. If stick to moderate weight up your reps and stick to machines that isolate chest and back muscles you should be able to at least maintain your current upper body size and maybe even add a bit of definition.

Yep, thats pretty much what Im looking for. Ive gone down to about 183-184lbs, which is down from 190 at the end of my SD cycle (started at 182lbs). So it looks like I just pretty much went back to my baseline, which sucks, but it could be worse.

Im just trying to get my diet back together and stay in somewhat of good shape till Im healed.

Just to give an update if anyone cares. I am now about 4 1/2 weeks out from my injury and recovery has been slow and steady. I have started lifting a little bit more aggressively, but have a ways to go before I am back to normal. I am hoping that in about another 3-4 weeks I will be close to normal.

On a side note, I would like to put a warning out to people doing heavy weighted lunges. I have always done them after squats and up until my injury never had any problems. To this day I still do not understand why this injury occured. I was using normal weights (60lbs dumbells) and going deep which I always do with lunges. When I felt the snap and heard the pop, I was doing nothing different than I have always done, to my knowledge. I will probably never do heavy, or any, lunges ever again for fear of re-injuring the muscle.

So in closing, if you choose to do lunges, stay light and be careful. Just a word to the wise from my experience.

Thanks DF, I know this one has been a hard injury to recover from, just part of playing the game though.
