Default Old Navy & Dave WNSO FAME Contest Results

2006 SNBF GEORGIA FAME CHAMPIONSHIPS, Marietta, Georgia, April 1, 2006

Dave and I arrived at the hotel in Marietta to check in and take our drug tests at around 4 PM on Friday. He was given a polygraph and I was given a urinalysis. We collected our competitor's tee shirts and paid for event tickets for our families. My wife, one of my daughters and her boyfriend are coming as is Dave's parents, his wife and daughter, a nice cheering section.

After checking in, Dave and I got something to eat and went to our rooms early to rest.

Saturday

We arrived at the Southern Polytech State University in Marietta at 9 AM for a competitor's meeting. Bruce and Carol Johnson, the head of the SNBF are two very special people. They care about their athletes and it shows as they provided a good pump up room, good changing rooms, bottles of water and bananas. The facilitators were helpful and the atmosphere very friendly. It was nice to see the Order of Events posted in several locations backstage, so we all knew what was coming up next.

The show started at 10 AM on the dot, as promised. There were 74 competitors, not counting crossovers. It is the 10th Anniversary of this drug-free organization and they are proud to offer a high caliber drug-free competition. The pre judging lasted until 12:30. We went to lunch and then returned to our hotels to rest up for the evening show.

The show started at 7:15 and ended around 11:00. It was a very competitive event. Lots of great muscled men and women. They judged men's and women's bodybuilding, model search, figure and fitness. This is a good competition and I believe it will get bigger and more competitive each year.

Dave competed against nine very good Open Men's Tall competitors (5' 11"+) and finished in Fifth Place. He was glad to finish in the Top Five, but was disappointed that he didn't place higher. At 6' 2", 200 pounds, he was lean and cut, but probably lacked the mass that some of the shorter competitors had. Dave and I talked about it and agreed that he should try to add about 15-20 pounds to his frame and bring that in at the low body fat he is able to achieve and give it another try when he is ready. He still has his sights on a Natural Pro Card.

I competed in a strong Open Men's Short Class of seven young men and placed Sixth. I was in the best shape of my life and really enjoyed standing up with the men in my class. Last year I took Third in this Class at this competition. The winner of the Class went on to win the Overall and won his WNSO Pro Card.

At 62 years of age, (I'll be 63 at the SOA), I was the oldest man in the show. I was also the only competitor registered for the Super Grand Master 60+ Class, so I opted to move down a Class and compete in the Grand Master 50+. I placed Third against five others.

Finally, my overall posing impressed the judges enough and my individual posing routine "16 Tons" rocked the house and brought everyone to their feet with cheers, hoots, hollers and whistles. Later that evening, I was awarded "Best Male Poser" Georgia SNBF-FAME Championships, the second time I have received this honor. I won Best Male Poser last July at the FAME SNBF Southern Open.

I will post some photos of the contest in the next few days.

That is excellent Old Navy. Congrats... That is awesome that you are the two time Best Poser Award... I need to see you Melvin Anthony and Darrem Charles bring down the house!

16 tons might be the most original posing song ever!
