Default Negative Bodybuilding Views

Does anyone else hear negative things about bb'ing on a daily basis? Just yesterday I was talking with my mom, who started asking me if most of the pro bodybuilders were gay. She said she read an article about the whole gay-for-pay thing. Then I was watching a True Life episode about a bodybuilder. My mom walked in right when the guy said "Hey dad don't go to sleep - yo uhave to shave my ass." Needless to say, not many people understand this game or way of life.

yeah all the time. If you say "bodybuilding" people immediately think of dangerous chemicals (steroids and gasp creatine), unhealthy eating habits (all that chicken CAN'T be good for you), gay (because any guy who shaves his body must be RIGHT?), and the list goes on and from everything like being egotistical to having roid rage.

People just have no clue.

I get it all the while from my mum and sister. Some of the more common ones:

"Whey protein gives you cancer and screws up your kidneys."

"Why do you want to look like a man?"

"Why don't you tone instead?"

"But why are you wanting to build muscle?"

"Creatine is a steroid."

"But if it hurts, why do you do it."

Yup, heard all those in at least the last week, and it goes on and on and on...

Truth is, bbing is a way of life, it's a lifestyle, not many people will understand it - they can't. The only person who can understand bbing is another bber. Simple as.

It's a hard life, but SO worth all the blood, sweat and tears. If it was easy, everyone would do it. It may sound obnoxious or arrogant, but they're the ones missing out in my eyes.

I hate that.
When my friends tell me its nasty, and shit.
And people look at "KRATINE" as a steroid.
And oh, my favorite, "He drinks protein - no wonder he's big"
Atleast I dont have to worry about nuts parents.

Default Respect as a Bodybuilder

On the other hand, as a 62 year-old competitor, who shaves his body and drinks protein shakes, takes creatine, doesn't take steroids and is not gay, I get a lot of positive feedback about my life style. My wife and two daughters support my sport and those with whom I come in contact with usually have questions about getting into shape or losing weight. I have been shown a great deal of respect as a senior bodybuilder.

I really respect that.
Its good to see that some people are staying in shape despite their age and whatever, unlike the countless Americans that live off Dominos delivery and TV.

Yeah, whenever I say I am into bodybuilding, they either think I am obsessed with guys in tight undies, or I use and abuse the same things above... I don't know what is wrong with promoting good health and wellbeing!

most people (especially my parents) think that bodybuilding is all about building unhealthy amounts of muscle, taking tons of unhealthy supplements, eating 20 pounds of meat a day, and showing of your body to everyone.

another misconception that many people seem to have is that bodybuilders are contest ripped 365 days out of the year. also, they think that every bodybuilder has to be at least 250 pounds to be considered a bodybuilder.

to me, the biggest misconception is that bodybuilders are cocky, egocentric, are constantly wanting to show off their physiques, and most importantly that we all got into the sport because we are insecure about our small penises.

My parents couldn't care less. They show zero interest in it and I don't talk about it with them.
