| Soldier In Progress | That's why we've got editors, there has to be some weight towards credibility but information is information. Sources, etc. Plus that's why I want a "Staff" for writing ... that way we've got established members, known and proven for quality!

| FDU Devils Weightlifter | My big thing with writing articles is, just as madman said, I don't have any kind of credibility with much, since I'm so new to this. For me its more of expousing ideals I believe in (like everyone should be deadlifting and snatching) and just tossing around new ideas.

I don't mean to tell you how to run your site, but seeing as I spent seven years in academic research, I understand a lot about how the quality and credibility of writings will affect your reputation. The groups I worked with at MIT and the Whitehead Institute produced papers that were published in elite journals because we never compromised quality for quantity. We could have churned out 5 or 6 low level publications every year, but instead we focused on getting one major paper out every 1-2 years. That's why researchers at MIT are known worldwide and the researchers at state schools are for the most part obscure. The resources the universities have access to are not all that different, it's just the standards of quality are different.

| Soldier In Progress | Very good point, maybe that's the way we should go towards? Get many people to follow a log, write very detailed articles based off of people's logs. Actually a pretty good idea, showing a group + results.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 60 | Okay, I've thought about this some more and I have a suggestion. The root of the matter is that the articles here on IM have to have something unique about them that sets them apart from the hordes of other articles on the web. Maybe romanaz isn't a highly experienced authority on powerlifting yet, so he doesn't have the credibility to write a purely instructional article on powerlifting. So what is he an expert on? He's an expert on romanaz. So that's what he writes about, that's what we all write about... romanaz, er, I mean ourselves. Infuse human interest and personal experience into the articles. We can discuss training and nutrition theory, but do it while relaying our personal results and experience. I am fully qualified to write an article about transforming from an average overweight guy to shredded, because that's one of my accomplishments... and in addition to presenting weight loss science and theory, I tell my story and what I had to do to achieve my result. I would talk about how I felt going through the experience, both the good and bad. That's what's missing from most articles, they tell you what you should do... but they don't identify the roadblocks, the mental stresses, or describe the pride one feels in a goal accomplished. Look at it this way, if a 30-something year-old guy is overweight and wants to get shredded, what will he find more valuable: a fat loss article written by an elite bodybuilder who has been shredded most of his life, or an average guy like me who achieved exactly what he's trying to do? However, if I just wrote the article in a matter-of-fact science and theory manner, he's likely to find the advice of the elite bb'er more credible. If I tell the story of my personal experience in words and pictures, it not only holds more interest, but is oozing credibility. Human interest is the key. We should tell our stories.
