Default lifting weights barefoot

i have always lifted weights barefoot....it just FEELS right to me and its all i have ever known, but recently a friend of mine has challenged WHY i lift that way and voiced a concern that i might hurt myself doing do. apparantly she has a friend who allegedly dislocated something in her back while lifting barefoot and the doctors said it was BECAUSE she was barefoot....

does anyone know where i could find any medical info on lifting barefoot? i have looked all around but cant seem to find ANYTHING....

personally think its all about form........i wasnt really concerned but im curious as to what you all think and if anyone has anything i can show her to prove lifting barefoot is NOT dangerous.

lifting barefoot is safer than wearing shoes, assuming you dont drop a DB on your foot

its uncomfortable and it does not feel right so i always have to wear something on my feet(wearing boots while squating is still more comfortable than going barefoot)

ouch. i think that would have messed up his foot reguardless.

whenever i lift at my house i lift with bare feet. its always more comfortable for me and i have never heard of any injury from not wearing shoes. im actually trying to find those nike free's because they are suppose to simulate being bare foot, to wear to the gym.

It's better to lift barefoot because of form. Shoes made for weight lifting are FLAT. Most sneakers have an angle to the arch, which makes it not optimal for squatting.

shoes made for powerlifting are FLAT. Shoes made for Olympic Weightlifting have ~1inch heels and have wood in them, allows for more flexibility for full squats and they sound cool when you hit the floor hard.

This is really bad when you consider that we're in an era of excessive ankle taping and high-top sneakers (especially in basketball; it drives me nuts). The more you train barefoot, the more you strengthen the small muscles of the feet and enhance ankle mobility and proprioception.

Beyond just getting out of your sneakers as often as possible, you can do a lot to enhance in-gym performance by wearing Nike Frees, Converse Chuck Taylors, wrestling shoes, and anything else that keeps you close in contact with the floor. You'll be even better off if you can get away with wearing flatter shoes like this during the day

I lift barefoot for most of my exercises I like it is more comfortable. The only exercises I do not are for exercises like SLDL, Squats, Lunges, and Shrugs. Exercises that have to much weight puting pressure on my feet. With exercises like these you have to watch out because you can damage the arch of your foot and cause it go flat. That is what a chiropractor told me when I told her I lifted barefooted.

I always lift barefoot at home(home gym), and shoes at school gym.

I prefer barefoot though, feels good.
