Default If building your body was so easy...

Do you think you'd be as interested in doing it? I am doubting it. I think the appeal for striving to attain something not many can is part of the appeal.

agree? disagree?

Agree completely... theres nothing like the feeling of being the biggest guy in the room/building/town, etc i dont think it would be as appealing if everyone had it in them to be huge.

ohh helllll no. i probably would have never started bodybuilding if i knew it was so hard....back then i wanted instant results. it wasn't until i started noticing progress and reaching my goals that i started taking on tough endeavors in my life.

great thread by the way

Most definately I agree. It's feels good to be one of the biggest, if not, the biggest person in the room but it also feels better when you're standing next to someone as huge as you, knowing that you worked your butt off more to get where you are. I dunno, I guess it's that being the "bigger man" mentality (no pun intended).

I think if it were easy that you'd be compelled more to do it since not working out would leave you looking sad compared to your peers. If everyone were buff and I wasn't I'd feel pretty bad.

I'm with mitch. For me, getting big and strong is only a bonus, but not the REASON why I lift and train. I don't compare myself to anyone else, I do it because it feels good and it's good for me.

I started out simply wanting to get stronger to make archery season easier. I never planned on getting big. Age and genetics are against me anyway, but I must say I am bigger than I ever thought I would be. So overall, this whole thing has been easy for me since I never expected the results I'm getting anyway. Now I want to see just how much more muscle I can add before I run out of time.

I love the fact that training and following a healthy lifestyle is hard.

I love the fact that most people won't do it. Most people simply don't have the dedication to do it for a week, let alone a year, let alone 20 years.

Ultimately, I don't train and diet because it's hard, I do it for me, and because I truly enjoy the training and the results. I love the changes I have been able to bring about in my body and in my life because of bodybuilding.

I truly owe almost everything I have to bodybuilding.... not from competing, or from monetary gain resulting from it.... but from the confidence, drive, and dedication that I have learned from it, and what those qualities have meant to the rest of my life.

So, do I train simply because it's hard, and others can't or wont? NO

But, that doesn't mean I don't LIKE the fact that it's hard.
Definitely bonus.

I wish bodybuilding was easier to be honest It's very difficult to do, and I'm still not the best at it by a long shot. I started lifting weights for purely aesthetic reasons. The Dedication and respect that come along with it are just a perk.

If you stick with it long enough Skel... eventually the things that bodybuilding will teach you.... discipline, dedication, perseverance, fortitude, character, etc... will ultimately be more valuable than any physical changes you will make to your body.

You don't figure that out when you've only been lifting for a few years... but when you look back over years of it, or a lifetime of it.. and see how the direction of your entire life has changed from working out.. ...the physical changes really end up being the perks.

Yeah but I admit to having some very bad priority issues  I completely understand what you mean, and deep down inside I know it. But... what can I say, I still have a dream I'm chasing!

Hey now, I never said you can't get the body too....

Just that in the long run... the multitude of things that will change in your life from everything that bodybuilding changes about you on the inside... will amount to more than even achieving the body of your dreams.

When you can do anything because you have the confidence and belief in yourself to truly believe you can... how you look is really just a perk.

Yup, bodybuilding (or at least trying to :bigthumbu) has thus far shown me what real dedication is... and what the difference of results is between real dedication and half assing something. I've applied that same lesson to all areas of my life, and my life has been improving as a whole

But for the sake of the arguement. Yes. I would still be doing this if it was easy, and I'd still be doing it if 'everyone' was doing it. Actually because it's fun more than anything.

This is exactly the point that I try to make to people when they think that I do what I do for pure vanity. Or that I just prance around on stage in a bikini... they don't get that the journey is the most important aspect, not the 10 minutes on stage...

I agree 100%

when most people look at a strenuous phisical task they dread the thought of attempting it, I look at it as a great way to have a tremendous feeling of acomplishment. lifting weights for me is the ultimate way to achive this feeling.
